What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Director Financial Planning Analysis position at MAKEUP BY MARIO?
ABOUT MAKEUP BY MARIO

With a powerful presence across leading global beauty retailers and direct-to-consumer channels, we deliver innovative, high-performance products rooted in artistry, craft, and education.
ROLE OVERVIEW
As we accelerate our global expansion, we are seeking a Senior Director, FP&A — a commercially-minded finance leader who will serve as a true strategic partner to the business, elevating the quality of financial decision-making at every level of the organization.
Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, the Senior Director, FP&A will own the company's end-to-end financial planning, forecasting, and performance management infrastructure. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role that sits at the intersection of finance and strategy — translating complex financial data into clear, decisive insight for the leadership team and Board.
The ideal candidate brings both the analytical depth to build rigorous models and the executive presence to influence at the C-suite level. This is not a consolidation role: we expect this leader to be deeply embedded in the business — understanding channel dynamics, retailer economics, and product margin drivers with the same fluency as our commercial teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Financial Planning & Forecasting
- Own the Annual Operating Plan, Long-Range Plan, and rolling forecast cycles, setting the cadence and standard of output for the Finance function.
- Build and maintain sophisticated multi-channel P&L models spanning wholesale, retail, DTC, and international — with granular sell-in, sell-through, and margin visibility.
- Lead trade spend and promotional ROI analysis in close partnership with Sales, elevating financial discipline across commercial decisions.
- Drive both local-market deep-dive forecasting and global consolidation — ensuring MBM's planning capabilities scale with the business.
Executive Reporting & Performance Management
- Design and deliver the monthly financial reporting package for senior leadership — leading variance analysis, KPI commentary, and forward-looking narrative.
- Monitor and synthesize sell-in vs. sell-through performance, retailer-level dynamics, and category growth drivers into actionable business insight.
- Develop gross margin frameworks that capture pricing, trade, freight, and cost-of-goods movements — providing a real-time view of profitability levers.
Senior Business Partnership
- Serve as the primary finance voice to Sales, Operations, and Supply Chain leadership — building trusted relationships that position Finance as a driver of growth, not a reporter of history.
- Provide financial architecture and investment analysis for new product launches, retail door expansions, and international market entries.
- Partner with the VP of Finance on Board-level presentations, investor materials, and strategic scenario planning.
Finance Transformation & Team Leadership
- Define and execute the FP&A roadmap — modernizing tools, processes, and reporting cadence to support a rapidly scaling global business.
- Champion AI-enabled finance: leverage tools such as Claude and ChatGPT to drive automation, accelerate analysis, and unlock new analytical capabilities.
- Build and mentor a high-performing FP&A team, establishing a culture of intellectual rigor, commercial curiosity, and continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 12 years of progressive finance experience, including 5 years in FP&A leadership; prior experience in beauty, consumer goods, or specialty retail strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated track record operating as a strategic finance partner at the Director level or above, with direct exposure to C-suite and Board audiences.
- Deep expertise in multi-channel P&L management, retailer economics, and gross margin optimization.
- Advanced financial modeling proficiency; fluency with ERP and BI platforms (NetSuite, Power BI, Anaplan, or equivalent).
- Practical experience using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) to enhance finance workflows — including prompting, model building, and output validation.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field required; MBA or CPA strongly preferred.
- Exceptional communication and executive presence — able to distill complexity into clear narrative and influence across functions and seniority levels.
- Thrives in fast-paced, high-growth, entrepreneurial environments; comfortable balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution.
