Assistant Manager & Party Coordinator, Chappaqua Makerspace (Part-Time)

MakeInspires is a STEAM makerspace where kids build real things: 3D printed designs, working circuits, coding video games, woodshop projects, robots, and more. We have been at it since 2011 and now serve more than 1,500 students a week across five locations. Our Chappaqua space runs after-school programs, weekend workshops, birthday parties, and school break camps.

The Role

You will be the second pillar of our Chappaqua team: Assisting the Manager with makerspace responsibilities, running the makerspace when our Manager is offsite, owning our birthday party operation end to end, and teaching in the space yourself several times a week.

This is hands-on, not a typical desk job. An afternoon might mean greeting families at the front desk, restocking a 3D printer, coaching an instructor through a hands-on lesson, and calling a parent back about a party theme.

Schedule

• Minimum of 20 hours per week, up to 30. Grows to as many as 40 within 12 months.

What You Will Do

Parties. Own client communication, respond to inquiries within 24 hours, coordinate themes and details with parents, and staff each event. Be onsite at key parties, and run them yourself when coverage falls through. Keep party supplies stocked, and follow up with families afterward.

Operations. Assist the Manager with makerspace responsibilities. Cover the makerspace when the Manager is offsite. Greet families at check-in and check-out, answer phones, maintain inventory and tech, coordinate 3D prints so every kid leaves with their project, and assist parents with registering through our online platform. Keep the makerspace clean and maintained, enforce our tool and shop safety rules, and hold instructors to the same standard.

Teaching and team. Teach 20 to 30 percent of your hours and cover as an on-call substitute. Train instructors in 3D design and printing, electronics, woodshop, coding, and robotics. Mentor our interns. Help the Manager with scheduling.

Community. Follow up with current and past families, and represent us at tabling events and school fairs.

• A problem solver. When an instructor calls out an hour before a party, you start solving instead of panicking
• Patient, friendly, a clear communicator, and a quick learner
• Team player

Teaching, camp, or after-school experience helps. So does any hands-on making background. CPR and First Aid certification is a plus, and we will pay for it if you need it.
