Job Overview
Makan Yacht Group is seeking an experienced and self-sufficient Yacht Captain to privately operate 50–100ft motor and sailing yachts for a family client. This is a solo operation role, meaning the captain will be responsible for all vessel duties independently without the support of a deckhand or steward. The ideal candidate is highly capable, personable, and takes genuine pride in delivering a seamless, safe, and enjoyable experience for the owner and their family.
Duties
- Safely operate and navigate 50–100ft motor and sailing yachts in coastal and offshore waters
- Independently manage all pre-departure and post-trip vessel checks and procedures
- Handle all docking, anchoring, and maneuvering without crew assistance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and guest-ready vessel at all times
- Manage light vessel maintenance, troubleshooting, and systems checks
- Oversee safety equipment, ensure compliance with USCG regulations, and conduct safety briefings for guests
- Operate water toys, tenders, and any onboard water sports equipment as needed
- Provide a professional, discreet, and welcoming experience for the owner and family
- Communicate proactively with ownership and Makan Yacht Group management regarding vessel status and trip planning
Skills
- Current and valid U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License required
- Previous maritime industry experience required
- Strong boating and navigation experience required
- Sailing experience is highly preferred
- Familiarity with Los Angeles area marinas and waterways
- Must reside within commuting distance of the LA area marinas
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently and responsibly
Compensation
- $35–$75 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
