We’re seeking a skilled Rotary Screw Air Compressor Service Technician to join our service team. In this role, you will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair rotary screw air compressors across a range of industrial environments. The position also includes servicing and repairing compressed air dryers (refrigerated and desiccant). Industrial refrigeration experience is a plus and will be highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Preventive Maintenance (PM): Perform scheduled PMs on rotary screw air compressors, including oil and filter changes, belt inspections, and lubrication.
- Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues; replace/repair motors, drives, regulators, valves, separators, coolers, and control components.
- Compressed Air Dryers: Service and repair refrigerated and desiccant dryers (heatless, heated, and blower purge), including dew point verification, drain systems, and desiccant media changes.
- System Commissioning: Assist with start-up, commissioning, and performance verification of new compressor and dryer installations.
- Controls & Electrical: Work with PLCs, VFDs, and microprocessor-based controls; read schematics and electrical diagrams to isolate faults.
- Oil Analysis & Documentation: Perform oil sampling and maintain service records per warranty and OEM standards.
- Customer Support: Provide on-site technical guidance, explain findings and corrective actions, and recommend system improvements.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and environmental regulations (fluids handling, refrigerants).
- On-Call/Travel: Participate in rotating on-call schedule and travel to customer sites within the region.
Qualifications
Preferred:
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
- 3 years of experience servicing rotary screw air compressors or closely related industrial equipment.
- Working knowledge of compressed air systems, dryers, and condensate management.
- Proficiency with electrical troubleshooting (120/240/480V), controls, and VFDs.
- Ability to read mechanical and electrical schematics and use diagnostic tools (multimeter, megger, thermal camera).
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Experience with refrigerated and desiccant air dryers (dew point monitoring, refrigerant circuits, purge systems).
- Industrial refrigeration experience (refrigeration cycle, compressors, condensers, evaporators, TXVs/EEVs, refrigerant recovery).
- EPA Section 608 certification (Type I/II/III or Universal).
- OEM training/certifications (e.g., Atlas Copco, Ingersoll Rand, Sullair, Kaeser, Gardner Denver, Quincy).
- Basic PLC programming/parameter adjustment and networked control systems experience.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in tight spaces, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in industrial environments (noise, heat/cold, dust).
- Willingness to work occasional overtime, weekends, and on-call rotations.
Tools & Technology
- Multimeter/megger, vibration analyzer, oil sampling kits, refrigerant gauges/recovery equipment.
- Laptop/tablet for service reporting, OEM diagnostic software, and CMMS.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Teams) for scheduling and documentation.
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical degree/certificate in Industrial Maintenance, HVAC/R, Mechatronics, or related field preferred.
