Description
- Must be willing to work 2nd Shift. 50 hour week. Mon - Fri 4 pm - 2:45 am, $1.50 per hour shift differential
- Responsible for wearing the proper mandatory safety gear in designated areas/situations and assure all machine guards are in place.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures and OSHA guidelines.
- Acquire proper paperwork and verify measuring devices prior to start of shift.
- Ensures that the correct slit coils, designated by the work orders, are staged and ready for the production run. See supervisor for instruction or if material is missing.
- Performs proper inspections of the materials (thickness, width and appearance) and document on inspection sheets.
- Inspect edges of strip to ensure that the burr of the steel is in the proper orientation (normally burr up feeding into the mill).
- Use End-Welder to join tailing end of coil to the new coil being processed. Tails of coil must be square to ensure proper alignment. If using mig welder to join coils grind to smooth finish. Operator must inspect both sides of the weld to ensure proper penetration has been achieved and that the weld is of acceptable quality.
- Communicates with mill operator to estimate quantity of steel needed for production run and forwards raw material tag to operator for production report purposes.
- Performs visual inspection of the floop to make sure steel is loaded/routed correctly, all settings and air pressures are correct for the material. Also checks to make sure the correct amount of pressure is applied to the pinch rolls.
- Responsible for the upkeep, troubleshooting and monitoring conditions of the equipment being utilized and reports any problems or damages to supervision.
- Ensures that proper tools, welding parts, argon tanks, tungsten, etc, are available at all times and properly prepared/installed.
- Sees to cleanliness and assures a safe work area. Stack pallets neatly and store wood spacers in appropriate area.
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
Requirements
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
· Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
· High school diploma or GED preferred
Physical Requirements:
· This person is responsible for the safe and correct operation of all the equipment in the End Welding area including up-ender, overhead crane, uncoiler, welder, floop and lift truck.
· Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
· Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with federal, state and local standards
