Position Overview:
The Director of Rehabilitation (DOR) is responsible for the leadership, oversight, and coordination of rehabilitation services including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology. This role ensures high-quality care delivery, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and strong interdisciplinary collaboration. The DOR plays a vital role in promoting functional outcomes, staff development, and care team member engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Operations
- Provide direct supervision and support to therapy team members including PTs, OTs, SLPs, and assistants.
- Oversee daily therapy operations including staffing, scheduling, and productivity
management.
- Monitor clinical performance and outcomes to ensure excellence in therapy service delivery.
- Coordinate therapy care planning with interdisciplinary teams to support resident-centered outcomes.
- Serve as liaison between therapy services, nursing, administration, and external partners.
- Participate in census development efforts through effective therapy programming and
marketing support.
Documentation and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and facility regulations, including
Medicare/Medicaid and PDPM guidelines.
- Support accurate and timely documentation, billing, and coding practices.
- Maintain proficiency in EMR systems and ensure documentation meets regulatory standards.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives within the rehab department.
Professional Development and Education
- Facilitate staff training, professional development, and performance evaluations.
- Stay current with advancements in rehabilitation services, regulatory guidelines, and
reimbursement models.
- Promote a culture of learning and clinical excellence within the therapy department.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide coaching, development, and corrective action as needed to support high-performing therapy teams.
- Evaluate performance and offer constructive feedback to promote team growth and
accountability.
- Ensure supervision of therapy assistants is conducted in accordance with state and facility guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Current state licensure as an Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Speech-Language Pathologist, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, or Certified Physical Therapy Assistant.
