SCADA Engineer III
Location: Reno, NV
Job Summary
The SCADA Engineer III is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of the SCADA system at a high-volume manufacturing facility. Additionally, the Engineer documents system infrastructure and methods to ensure workflows are well established and managed. This role also focuses on continuously improving the SCADA system to help achieve peak operational performance.
Essential Duties
- Collaborate with Engineers I & II to develop, implement, and manage SCADA systems within the facility.
- Work with Senior Engineers to develop project architecture and planning.
- Serve as technical project lead, managing other engineers and delegating tasks.
- Design new and enhance existing Ignition HMI screens in Vision and Perspective.
- Create and maintain Ignition tags.
- Perform database programming and design.
- Design control panel layouts and wiring diagrams.
- Generate SCADA documentation including specifications, architecture, and SOPs.
- Provide support to SCADA system customers and stakeholders.
- Conduct thorough testing and validation of SCADA network deployments and installations.
- Other duties as assigned.
PPE Requirements
To ensure workplace health and safety, personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required. This can include items such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit with respirator.

Qualifications
Education
- Required: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Essential Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with SCADA design, programming, and commissioning in Ignition.
- Strong understanding of tags, alarm pipelines, gateway servers, edge line servers, transaction groups, recipe management, UDTs, Ignition templates, and historizing data.
- Python scripting skills.
- Knowledge of networking principles as they apply to SCADA.
- Understanding of ladder logic.
- Familiarity with Modbus, EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, MQTT, OPC UA, and SQL.
- Experience working in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of electrical hardware, drawings, sequence control, and software design.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional and international teams.
- Flexibility to solve issues using first-principles thinking.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Agile Project Management.
- Successful completion of Inductive University.
- Solid experience programming, installing, and troubleshooting PLC systems (preferably Mitsubishi or Omron).
- Familiarity with core operational principles such as contribution to society, fairness, cooperation, continuous improvement, adaptability, and humility.
