What are the responsibilities and job description for the Interior Horticulturist Lead position at Maison Green?

Under the direction of the CEO, the Lead Interior Horticulturist visits Maison Green clients at their place of residence/business to provide plant care services. These services include general maintenance, repotting, plant-sitting, plant installations, and more.
In addition to hands-on plant care, the Lead Interior Horticulturist plays a key role in advancing horticultural knowledge across the company—developing educational materials, supporting team training, and driving innovation in plant care practices and client experience.
- Visits all assigned clients as scheduled, providing adequate notice if unable to complete a visit as planned.
- Communicates with customers on a regular basis to coordinate plant care visits, provides updates after each visit, and serves as a knowledgeable resource for client questions.
- Maintains overall health and aesthetics of plants in the client’s home or business space.
- Waters, prunes, cleans, and fertilizes all plants appropriately per each plant’s needs.
- Identifies plants that need repotting and completes the repotting process in a way that minimizes root shock.
- Identifies and addresses pest infestations through topical and systemic treatments.
- Ensures that the customer’s space is clean and orderly throughout the visit (no water spills or debris left behind).
- Maintains clean and adequate equipment, and replenishes low supply as needed.
- Assists with installations, including delivery, potting, and installation of interior plants.
- Supports installation planning by contributing plant knowledge, material selection, and layout considerations.
- Designs and refines internal training materials, care guides, and reference documents to support team consistency and growth.
- Creates client-facing educational resources, including plant care summaries, post-service notes, and care instructions.
- Assists with onboarding and orientation of new Interior Horticulturists, helping to establish strong foundational skills and service standards.
- Provides ongoing training support to team members, offering guidance on plant care techniques, troubleshooting, and best practices.
- Identifies opportunities to improve workflows, tools, and plant care systems, contributing to operational innovation.
- Promotes Maison Green services to clients.
- Attends events (plant markets, pop-ups, etc) and assists with setting up/breaking down, facilitating events, etc.
- Assists with special projects as needed.
Requirements for the role
- Must be over 18 years old.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable mode of transportation to visit clients throughout the Greater Boston area.
- Is comfortable with city driving and parking.
- Possesses a smartphone and is able to take attractive photographs of plants for client updates.
- Is comfortable lifting 60lbs as needed throughout the course of a project.
- Is comfortable climbing ladders/working off-ground as needed for elevated plants.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, independent working environment.
- Works well as part of a team.
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills, accountability, and the ability to manage both client relationships and team responsibilities simultaneously.
Preferred qualifications for the role
- Has a strong interest and demonstrated experience in caring for interior plants.
- Has prior leadership or supervisory experience.
- Experience with Google Calendar and Google Docs for team collaboration.
