Job Summary:
To design, fabricate, join and repair equipment, fixtures and structures using various welding techniques.
Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Operations. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform welding repairs on all types of equipment and structures
- Repair and install playground and PE equipment
- Operate both arc and gas welders
- Measure, size and make welding job estimates
- Fabricate all types of welding jobs to fit special district needs
- Regular and on-time attendance required
- Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
Required Qualifications:
- High School education or equivalent
- Valid Arizona driver's license
- Minimum four years welding experience

- Ability to safely operate arc and/or gas welders
- Good safety and work record; excellent attendance
- OSHA certified or ability to obtain certification
- Ability to read, understand and work from blueprints and to lay out work
- Working knowledge of tools, materials, methods and safe working practices; ability to care for equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and to establish and to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships
- Ability to work overtime and to change schedules with minimal notice; willingness to work non-regular hours (weekends, night shift, swing shift, holidays)
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- On school grounds (elementary, middle, high schools, district offices)
- May work at heights, in confined spaces, or underground areas (e.g. for pipe welding)
- Exposure to fumes, heat, sparks, and loud noise
- Varying temperatures depending on weather and site location
- May work near moving mechanical parts and electrical systems
- May require overtime or emergency call-ins (e.g., broken water pipe or emergency structural repair).
- Climbing ladders and working at elevated heights (e.g., rooftops, scaffolding)
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly; heavier lifting with assistance or mechanical aids
