POSITION TITLE: LANDSCAPING/GROUNDS CREW TEACHER
SALARY: $35.00 per hour
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Per the Unit A Collective Bargaining Agreement
This position is only available to current Unit A Teachers who are currently employed by Chicopee Public Schools. External applicants will not be considered.
Dates of the Program: June 23, 2026 – August 14, 2026
GENERAL STATEMENT:
Landscaping/Grounds Crew Teacher is responsible for the upkeep and appearance of school grounds. The work is labor-intensive and the work is physically taxing and requires being outdoors in all kinds of weather.
SUPERVISION:
Works under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance or Asst. Director of Maintenance who assign work, check quality. Must be able to diagnose and resolve problems with very little supervision. Oversee up to 6 students daily.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades.
- Knowledge of a broad range of hand tools and powered equipment, such as lawnmowers, rakes, trimmers and chainsaws.
- Strong communications, job coordination, organizational skills.
- Must have valid driver's license
- OSHAIO Certified
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
- Grounds maintenance duties usually consist of up keeping lawns, trees, shrubs, flowerbeds and other landscaping elements.
- Workers may also tend to the seasonal needs of walkways and parking lots, as well as site specific structures like seating areas, fences and buildings.
- Assists in estimates, technical correspondence and reports
- Any other duties assigned or capable of performing.
- Performs scheduled, routine maintenance on school grounds using a variety of equipment.
- Drive truck to transport materials and equipment to job sites.
- Responds to emergency service calls as directed.
- Observe and inform Director of Maintenance of safety hazards
- Estimate amount of required supplies for grounds projects; select the type of material necessary.
- Inspect completed work and direct any rework or modification.
