Moving Department Maintenance Mechanic

Our Maintenance Mechanics ensure the ongoing care and servicing of the division’s buildings, furnishings, and grounds. A Maintenance Mechanic may be assigned to skilled areas such as electric, plumbing, carpentry, grounds, masonry, and painting depending on the expertise of the individual and the needs of the school division. 

This position will support the Moving Department and will play a key role in coordinating, preparing, repairing and assisting with the relocation of furniture, equipment, and instructional materials across the division.

Essential Job Functions:

• Performs skilled work on a journeyman level in the installation, maintenance, and repair of all facilities
• Repairs and maintains water, gas, oil, and sewer pipe lines if applicable
• Undertakes construction and renovation projects on building as directed
• Orders and purchases materials
• Performs skilled work that deals with the maintenance and repair of buildings, structures, and fixtures including on doors, door locks, cabinets, shelves, partitions, floors, windows, and tiles
• Responds to emergency duty assignments when required
• Maintains equipment, tools, and machinery connected with duties
• Complies with all safety rules and regulations
• Performs safety inspections of the buildings and grounds as directed
• Examines school buildings and office facilities on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance and establishes priorities on repair projects
• Coordinates and makes arrangements for emergency and unscheduled work for prompt attention
• Provides training for the proper use of materials and equipment
• attends seminars as necessary to stay abreast of the latest technology in the related fields
• Assists with removing snow during inclement weather from parking lot; including sand and rock salt

Education and Experience:

Required

• High School Diploma or GED
• Current (valid, non-expired) Driver’s License and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Class B endorsement
• Five (5) years of experience working as a maintenance technician, ideally within a public school system or other Educational setting

Special Requirements:

• The employee must pass a yearly physical and participate fully in the drug/alcohol screening program.
• Plumbers are required to have a Journeyman’s License in plumbing.
• This position is designated as "Essential Personnel", which requires that employees report to their job site during emergency situations, such as snow, inclement weather, or other emergency situations. May be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week for emergency situations, including weather and other building emergencies

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as a 12-Month (243 Day), full-time position. The work schedule for this position is 7.5 hours worked per day, excluding lunch. This position is evaluated annually.
