Position Summary

The Grounds Herbicide Pesticide IPM Lead is responsible for implementing and managing the District’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program to ensure a safe and compliant learning and working environment. This role oversees pest management applicators, monitors the use of pest control products, and ensures that all application methods follow state regulations and district standards. The Grounds Herbicide Pesticide IPM Lead maintains accurate treatment records in compliance with state laws, creates/documents work orders as required, and coordinates with contractors to manage campus kitchen preventive maintenance programs. This position serves as the district’s point of contact for pest control operations and ensures effective communication and collaboration with staff, vendors, and regulatory agencies.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency.
  • Valid Driver License with a good driving record (meet and maintain liability coverage eligibility by BISD Carrier).
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Coordinator Certification.
  • Herbicide/Pesticide applicators license required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience with herbicide and pesticide products.
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check.

  • School District IPM knowledge and experience.

  • Knowledge of IPM best practices and industry regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to clearly and accurately record information.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) regulations.
  • Knowledge of operation of Heavy Equip (Tractors, Boom Sprayers, RTV).
  • Knowledge of Innovative and progressive practices, methods, processes, equipment, devices, tools, and materials used in structural landscape, ornamental, turf, and wildlife pest management, including biological, procedural, physical, and chemical pest management methods.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities

  • Pest Control for the entire District.
  • Comply with Federal and State Regulations under Texas Department of Agriculture.
  • Follow-up on ongoing treatments with school personnel.
  • Maintain files required, including pesticide application records, pest care labels, SDS and records of complaints.
  • Treat grounds for various insects including fire ants.
  • Ability to make dormant weed applications.
  • Fertilize grounds when needed during various seasons.
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work.
  • Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures
  • Maintain a professional relationship with students, faculty, administration and community patrons.
  • Regularly monitor district email for pertinent communication.
  • Complete requested paperwork and submit all data and information as requested. 
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and seminars as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

Working Conditions

 

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals and other equipment applicable to position.

Physical/Motion/Posture: Physical ability to walk, stoop, stand, twist, crouch, and squat on a constant basis. Exposure to chemicals, pesticides, and cleaning agents is required, with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) provided. Frequent standing, walking, bending/stooping, squatting, climbing stairs/ladders, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Strenuous walking and climbing stairs; occasional keyboarding and use of a mouse.

Lifting:  Frequent heaving lifting, carrying, pushing, dragging or pulling objects (44 – 100 pounds).

Environment: Work inside and outside (moderate exposure to the sun, heat, cold, and occasional exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc. approved chemicals; work around moving objects.

Travel: Requires driving district vehicle between district sites and facilities.

Safety: Work involves regular exposure to chemical substances and potential pests. Strict adherence to safety protocols, district procedures, and state and federal regulations is required.

Schedule: May require flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, to address urgent pest control issues or conduct treatments when facilities are unoccupied. May work prolonged or irregular hours.

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; work with frequent deadlines; maintain emotional control under stress.
