Job Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Perform duties in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures for the school facilities.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Installs fixtures, outlets, and switches, and makes wire connections.
- Cuts, threads and bends conduit and pulls wire through conduit.
- Replaces defective wiring and makes connections to electrical installations being renovated.
- Replaces faulty electrical components.
- Makes minor repairs to equipment.
- Test malfunctioning electrical systems and equipment.
- Installs and connects equipment to wiring systems.
- Replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.
- Replaces faulty electrical components.
- Installs, maintains, alters, and repairs wiring, electrical devices, machinery, and equipment.
- Draws wire through conduit and completes necessary splicing, soldering, and application of friction tape.
- Must be able to read and interpret electrical blueprints.
- Install, maintain, and operate security alarm systems.
- Reads and understands control circuitry.
- Assists with moving furniture, commodities, supplies, equipment, etc. throughout the school district.
- Assists other maintenance crews and trades with projects, maintenance, preventive maintenance and/or repairs to all sites within the school district.
- Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Director.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of elementary arithmetic and units of measure
- Basic knowledge of the standard of practices and methods of the electrical trade
- Basic skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary to electrical work
- Ability to interpret work from sketches
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Valid NC driver’s license
- Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs.
- Must be willing to obtain Maintenance Electrician Certification within 1 year of being hired.
SALARY RANGE
Pay Grade 59
$15.61 - $24.42 per hour
(based on 0-30 years of experience in a related position within a public school system)
Full time, Permanent, 12-month position
