What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Plumber position at Maintenance Department?

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, maintain the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures districtwide. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems in district facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High School diploma or G.E.D.
Valid Texas driver’s license
Valid Texas journeyman plumber license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
Knowledge of plumbing codes and ordinances
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to use hand and power tools
Ability to speak, read, and understand English
Ability to safely lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 lbs)
Experience:
Three years of experience in plumbing field
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Diagnose plumbing systems and lines and repair as indicated or according to work orders.
- Assemble, install, maintain, and pressure test all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing system equipment, including sinks, commodes, water heaters, water softeners, etc.
- Troubleshoot and locate problems in underground or concealed piping.
- Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
- Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
- Maintain inventory and perform preventive maintenance on district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
- Upon job completion, ensure areas are clean.
- Work with building administrators to complete projects.
- Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
- Locate, mark, and identify underground utilities.
- Respond to after-hour emergencies as needed.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Ensure that vehicle, equipment, and tools are in safe operating condition and perform preventative maintenance.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting (up to 50 lbs), climbing, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
- Estimate, organize, install, and oversee building modifications and repairs.
- Secure and restart building equipment in the event of equipment failure.
- Repair dishwashers and kitchen equipment that incorporate gas or water consumption.
- Attend school/training sessions as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the General Maintenance Lead and Maintenance Manager.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None
EQUIPMENT USED:
Hand and power tools, pipe bender, propane torch, welding equipment, sewer rooter, heavy equipment, including forklift, trencher, backhoe.personnel lift, ditch witch, pipe threading equipment, and sewer machine. Light truck or van.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and working in confined spaces. Regular lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of tools, equipment, and materials up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance. Frequent use of hand and power tools requiring repetitive hand motions and overhead work. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures and around dust, fumes, chemicals, gas lines, sewage, noise, and moving mechanical equipment. Maintain concentration while diagnosing and repairing plumbing systems, reading blueprints, and responding to emergency situations. Frequent districtwide travel and occasional after-hours or emergency call-out work required.
