Job Summary
Maintenance At Best Mechanical LLC is seeking an experienced Traveling Residential HVAC Installer to join our team. This position will focus primarily on like-for-like residential HVAC change-outs and retrofit installations at various job sites throughout South Carolina.
The ideal candidate must be dependable, professional, detail-oriented, and capable of completing residential HVAC installations safely, efficiently, and to company standards. This role requires travel to multiple locations, so candidates must be comfortable working on the road and staying organized while moving between job sites.
Per diem will be provided for approved travel-related work.
Primary Responsibilities
The Traveling Residential HVAC Installer will be responsible for performing residential HVAC system replacements and retrofit installations, including but not limited to:
- Removing and replacing existing residential HVAC systems
- Performing like-for-like change-outs of heat pumps, air handlers, furnaces, evaporator coils, condensers, and package units
- Installing new equipment according to manufacturer specifications and company standards
- Connecting refrigerant lines, drain lines, low-voltage wiring, and equipment accessories
- Brazing, pressure testing, evacuating, charging, and starting up HVAC systems
- Making minor duct transitions, plenum connections, and retrofit adjustments as needed
- Ensuring proper airflow, drainage, refrigerant charge, and system operation
- Performing equipment start-up and basic commissioning
- Keeping job sites clean, safe, and professional
- Properly removing and hauling off old equipment when required
- Communicating with supervisors, customers, builders, property managers, or other job-site contacts as needed
- Documenting completed work with photos, notes, and required paperwork
- Following all company safety procedures and local code requirements
- Traveling to assigned job locations throughout South Carolina
Required Skills and Qualifications
Qualified candidates should have experience with residential HVAC installation and must be able to perform change-outs with limited supervision.
Requirements include:
- Previous residential HVAC installation experience
- Experience with heat pump, split system, furnace, air handler, and condenser change-outs
- Ability to perform like-for-like retrofits efficiently and correctly
- Ability to braze refrigerant piping properly
- Ability to pull vacuum, pressure test, and assist with system charging/start-up
- Basic understanding of low-voltage wiring
- Basic understanding of duct connections, plenums, transitions, and airflow
- Ability to read basic job scopes, equipment labels, and installation instructions
- Ability to work in attics, crawl spaces, closets, garages, and outdoor conditions
- Ability to lift, carry, and move HVAC equipment and materials
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be willing to travel to various locations in South Carolina
- Must be dependable, professional, and able to show up on time
- Must be able to communicate clearly with management and job-site contacts
- Must take pride in quality workmanship
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
- EPA Certification
- NATE certification or trade school training
- Experience with Goodman, Trane, Carrier, Lennox, York, Rheem, Ruud, or similar residential equipment
- Experience working with property management companies, builders, or residential retrofit programs
- Ability to complete full residential change-outs from start to finish
- Experience with equipment start-up documentation
- Ability to troubleshoot basic start-up issues
Travel and Per Diem
This is a traveling position. Work will be located at various residential job sites throughout South Carolina.
Maintenance At Best Mechanical LLC will provide per diem for approved travel. Travel details, job locations, lodging needs, and per diem arrangements will be discussed based on the assigned work schedule and project location.
Candidates must be willing and able to travel as needed for scheduled installations.
Work Schedule
Schedule may vary depending on project location, workload, and job-site requirements. Some early mornings, long days, and occasional overnight travel may be required.
