What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Account Manager position at MainTek Products?
We supply the parts and products that keep apartment buildings running — plumbing, heating, cabinets, appliances, electrical, locks. Our customers are property management companies and their maintenance teams. When something breaks, they call us and we figure out what they need and get it there. We don't compete on price — we compete on knowing our stuff and saving people time.
Here's the part salespeople tend to like: we don't carry inventory. We sell from a whole marketplace of vendors, so you're never stuck pushing what's on a shelf. If the customer needs it, you can sell it — no line-card limits, no "sorry, we don't carry that."
What this job actually is
We already work with a lot of management companies. Under them are hundreds of individual properties that have never bought from us — buildings that already have a reason to trust us. Your job is to go get them.
That means reaching out consistently, following up, asking good questions, and understanding what a maintenance supervisor is actually dealing with. It's not order taking — you'll have to sell. But you're selling something real: convenience, time saved, and someone who knows the product.
Who we're looking for
- Someone who follows up — not occasionally, consistently. This is the whole job.
- Curious. You ask questions until you understand the actual problem, not just the part number.
- Some background in cabinets, plumbing, heating, electrical, or a related trade. We'll teach you a lot, but you should be comfortable with technical products.
- Able to sell value, not price. If your instinct is to discount, this isn't the fit.
- A team player who wants to build something and stick around for it.
What we offer
- $55,000–$65,000 base, depending on your technical and product experience
- Commission on top: 15% of gross profit on each account for its first 12 months, 10% ongoing. The book you build is yours — and new business pays more, so your effort and your paycheck point the same direction.
- A warm list to start with — you're not cold calling strangers out of a phone book
- A real team behind you: you sell it, our operations crew gets it ordered, tracked, and delivered. No corporate layers, decisions get made same-day.
- $500/month health insurance contribution and paid time off
- Real product training — we'd rather teach the right person than hire the wrong one
