What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security Guard position at MainStay Suites Columbus North - Worthington?
With our vision to positively impact, along with its mission and core values at the forefront, a courtesy officer ensures the safety and security of the hotel premises and deters any criminal activity perpetrated by guests, staff, or external influences that are against hotel policies. The duty of the courtesy officer is to solely observe and report any activity. Under no circumstances should the courtesy officer engage in any intervention during the commission of a crime. The safety and wellbeing of the courtesy officer will always be of the utmost importance to us.
IN THE EVENT OF WITNESSING A CRIME:
- Maintain a safe distance and observe the incident.
- Do not intervene.
- Gather a detailed description of the incident and individuals involved.
- Immediately contact the local police department.
POST-SHIFT DUTIES:
- Charge flashlight.
- Documented incidents, observations, and actions taken are to be submitted to the General Manager at the conclusion of each shift.
ATTENDANCE:
- Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.
$22 - $26 hourly
Responsibilities:
PATROL SURVEILLANCE AND MONITORING:
- The courtesy officer is to maintain constant motion around or inside the premises to deter any criminal activity.
- During outdoor patrols, the courtesy officer should utilize a flashlight to survey the perimeter for any suspicious activity.
- Regularly inspect exterior doors to ensure they are securely closed and locked.
- Report any malfunctioning outdoor lights.
- During indoor patrols, all guest doors should be closed.
- Hallways, stairwells, and public bathrooms should be monitored
- Identify and report any potential hazards that may endanger guests.
- Observe and report any vehicles that appear abandoned or have remained on the premises for an extended period.

EDUCATION:
- Less than high school education; or up to three months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: Internet Software; Spreadsheet Software (Excel); Word Processing Software (Word); Electronic Mail Software (Outlook); Presentation software (PowerPoint), Property Management Systems.
