JOB DEFINITION
To maintain all branch functions in an efficient manner and create a culture in the workplace to ensure our customers’ success. The Branch Manager will execute Mainscape Standards of Excellence in all areas within the branch including labor, equipment, customer service, safety, financial stability and all administrative functions. Successful Branch Managers are proactive leaders, have a strong work ethic and are self-starters who can interact
with the public and our employees.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITES AND DUTIES
The essential duties and responsibilities are listed below. Other duties may be assigned.
General:
- Be able to perform all responsibilities required of an operations manager plus those listed below.
Employees:
- Responsible for overseeing activities such as recruiting, hiring, payroll, managing, training and developing employees; conducting performance appraisals and managing employee performance
- Communicating and cultivating Mainscape goals, mission statement, vision, core values and Standard of Excellence to branch employees
- Ensuring that employees are both results oriented and are operating as a team
- Demonstrating role model behaviors on ethics and integrity as well as positively promoting Company culture
Training:
- Conduct routine training of operations team to improve and maximize production efficiency
- Coaching and mentoring branch staff in their respective areas
- Assure all employees are achieving completion of assigned training guides
- Communicate and cultivate Mainscape goals, mission statement, vision and core values to ensure a successful career pathway
Safety:
- Ensuring that entire branch operates safely and efficiently at all times
- Communicate and oversee utilization of current safety programs and incentives
- Keep management team aware of safety statistics company-wide and work as a team to improve and develop a safer work environment
- Ensure proper reporting is completed according to Mainscape expectations.
Equipment:
- Ensure vehicle and equipment appearance meets Mainscape Standard of Excellence.
- Oversee management of asset list.
- Manage inventory and rotation of vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain records for assets.
Materials:
- Communicating with vendors and/or suppliers to ensure a quality product while negotiating the best price.
- Manage and care for branch inventory of plants and products.
MTA:
- Ensuring that the system is being utilized correctly and accurately by all areas of the branch.
Customer Service:
- Administration of customer service, including work orders and tracking of customer service requests
- Scheduling and making regular visits to meet customers; reviewing quality and production
- Keep open lines of communication between departments
Reports:
- Delivering timely and accurate reports, financials and schedules
- Checking reports to track profitability and communicate with operations and account management to make necessary adjustments.
Finance:
- Establishing and maintaining the branch’s annual budget for revenue, overhead, and profit
- Remain aware of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable status of branch
- Review and approve branch expense reports
- Facilitate end of month procedures for all departments within established timeline.
- Read and understand GL statements
- Interpret and present monthly financial statements to the leadership team.
Sales
- Facilitate between sales and operations that we are providing accurate costing, production rates and pricing
- Be aware of market pricing and competition
- Ensure that all jobs are completed according to contract and within budget
- Oversee new business development, attend sales calls with Account Executive and assist with client requests as necessary
- Represent Company, interfacing and building relationships with owners, property managers, general contractors and subcontractors
Operations:
- Direct supervision of operations managers and delegation of responsibilities
- Conduct weekly operations meetings addressing safety, reporting, quality, margins, and employee advancement
- Ensure delivery of services
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Age Requirements:
- Employee must be at least 18 years of age for general landscaping responsibilities and to operate power equipment, and meet all applicable state-mandated labor laws
Experience:
- Twelve (12) months of previous commercial experience as an operations manager, preferred but not required.
- Has satisfactorily completed the prescribed “Operations Manager” training guide and can perform those specified essential duties.
Knowledge of:
- Regulations specific to your region
- Proficient with computer software programs including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Technical skills in all areas of landscape maintenance such as mowing, trimming, pruning, edging, etc.
- Irrigation, tree trimming, and chemical knowledge.
- General industry safety guidelines.
- This position is in environments that involve safety hazard regulated by such governmental agencies such as OSHA, EPA, Dept. of Transportation, and the State Chemist Office. In addition, this position needs to be knowledgeable on the regulations to help reduce the exposure of our sales staff giving incorrect information on our services, as well as exposure to all of the safety hazards.

Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations:
- Valid driver’s license with required classifications and insurability based on company insurance requirements.
- Smith Driving Certification
- Best Management Practices (BMP) certification, where required.
- Pesticide license, preferred
- OSHA 10-hour
- OSHA 30-hour
- Ensures branch is in compliance with all required certifications, licenses & registration, applicable to branch
Language Skills:
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong reading comprehension
- Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body in order to be able to work in various positions including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, squatting, and walking for extended periods of time.
- Be able to reach over head with hands and arms; climb or balance.
- Be able to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Be able to lift, pull, and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
- Be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- Maintain physical fitness level necessary to complete assigned job tasks.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Be able to work in extreme weather conditions, including but not limited to extreme heat and cold.
Working Conditions:
- Weekend or overtime hours as necessary.
- Odd hours are a necessity during inclement weather seasons, if applicable.
- Combination of office, shop, and field time, where this position is exposed to all of the elements. This includes all four weather seasons and all times of the day and night.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- The noise level in the work environment will vary depending on the assigned jobs, however, it is usually high and requires ear protection while operating equipment.
EVALUATION
Before an employee can advance to Regional Manager, they must have their Supervisor provide written verification of having completed the following:
- Employee may not have missed any days of work, unexcused by supervisor, within the previous 6 months.
- Employee has arrived before or at the time set by their Supervisor every day within previous 6 months.
- Employee has arrived to work in clothes fitting the Mainscape dress code policy every day within the previous 6 months.
- Employee must have completed training for all applicable service categories (See Branch Manager)
- Employee has demonstrated the ability to perform all essential job responsibilities and duties listed above.
- Employee must have the recommendation of their Supervisor to advance to the new position.
