What are the responsibilities and job description for the Content Manager position at Mainland?
This is a full-time, in-person role based in our Chicago office. The Content Manager will be responsible for creating, managing, and executing written content across our clients and owned media platforms, including 1851 Franchise and other Mainland publications.
This role is responsible for driving the day-to-day production of content while ensuring quality, consistency, and alignment with client goals. The Content Manager will work closely with account managers, PR, and digital teams to produce content that is on-brand, on-time, and driving measurable results. This is a client-facing role, requiring strong communication, organization, and accountability.
Content Creation & Execution
Write and edit long-form and short-form content including articles, brand profiles, thought leadership, and SEO-driven pieces
Execute against content calendars across multiple clients and industries
Ensure all content is delivered on time and meets quality standards
Content Strategy Support
Support the development and execution of content strategies aligned with client goals
Translate client positioning into clear, effective content
Continuously bring new ideas for topics, angles, and storytelling opportunities
Account & Client Management
Serve as a key point of contact for content-related client communication
Participate in client calls, providing updates, recommendations, and insights
Collaborate with account managers to ensure alignment across deliverables
Platform & Publication Management
Publish and manage content across 1851 Franchise and other Mainland platforms
Ensure content is formatted, optimized, and aligned for performance
Maintain consistency in voice, tone, and quality across all outputs
Performance & Optimization
Track content performance and identify opportunities for improvement
Optimize headlines, formats, and topics to increase engagement and visibility
Stay current on trends in content, SEO, and AI-driven search
5 years of experience in content, editorial, journalism, or marketing
BA or BS in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience)
You are: proactive, organized, detail-oriented, and accountable
Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt tone across brands
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment
Understanding of content strategy, storytelling, and audience engagement
Experience with SEO, analytics, and content performance tracking preferred
Comfortable working in a client-facing role
A strong work ethic and commitment to delivering high-quality content consistently
- $65,000 – $85,000 depending on experience
