Job Overview – Deli Clerk
We are seeking a dependable and motivated Deli Clerk to join our team. This role is critical to ensuring that our Deli is well-stocked, customer focused, and visually appealing for customers. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, efficient, and capable of performing time bound customer facing tasks throughout the day.
As a Deli Clerk, you will be responsible for working all incoming freight, managing backstock, and maintaining the presentation of merchandise through consistent facing and straightening. As well as responding to customer requests for sliced deli items, salads, or catering orders. Your contributions will support overall store operations and enhance the shopping experience for our customers.
Responsibilities
- Unload and process incoming deli freight and accurately stock shelves and display cases
- Organize and rotate backstock to ensure freshness and product availability
- Maintain clean, well-faced, and organized displays to promote an inviting shopping experience
- Assist customers with sliced meats, cheeses, salads, and special orders, providing friendly and knowledgeable service
- Handle catering requests accurately and in a timely manner
- Ensure adherence to food safety procedures and hygiene standards
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate low stock or discrepancies to management
- Collaborate with team members to achieve daily department goals and maintain store cleanliness
Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to efficiently manage time and multitask in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment
- Dependable and self-motivated with a positive attitude and team-first mindset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with customers and team members
- Ability to follow food safety and sanitation guidelines
- Previous experience in a deli, food service, or retail setting preferred but not required
- Physically able to stand for extended periods and lift moderate-weight items (up to 40 lbs)
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed
