Position Summary
The SAFE in-training must attend the State SAFE training and complete the credentialing requirements within 9-12 months. The Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) will provide timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to the sexual Assault, domestic violence, child or elder abuse survivor. This may include a medical forensic exam, prophylaxis for pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, photographic documentation, referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up, support and participation in legal proceedings. The SAFE is expected to follow protocols established by the Medical Director and/or management of the SAFE Program for which the SAFE is employed.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred
- License/Certifications: Must have either a current State of Maine Registered Nurse (RN) license or an RN license recognized by the Nurse Licensure Compact (https://www.ncsbn.org/nlc.htm). If RN licensure is from a compact state, must obtain a state of Maine RN license within 90 days of changing primary residency to Maine.; BLS required within 3 months of hire.
- Experience: Two year acute bedside hospital nursing experience required.
- Ability to work independently, effective time management and problem solving skills, able to manage multiple priorities
- Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
- Must have confident and effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to react calmly, objectively and effectively in emergency situations.
- Sign SAFE agreement/contract
