Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Self-Contained Special Education Teacher to join our dynamic educational team. Duties
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s unique needs and abilities, ensuring compliance with special education law.
- Deliver engaging lessons across core subjects such as literacy, math, and communication skills, integrating educational technology tools to enhance learning experiences.
- Utilize evidence-based behavioral management strategies and behavioral therapy techniques to support positive behavior and social skills development.
- Conduct ongoing assessments, including standardized testing and progress monitoring, to evaluate student growth and adjust instructional approaches accordingly.
- Collaborate with speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to support speech therapy, deaf education, autism spectrum disorders support, and developmental disabilities interventions.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively through proactive classroom management techniques, creating a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
- Maintain detailed records of student progress, behavior incidents, and IEP documentation while ensuring confidentiality and adherence to legal requirements.
- Engage in regular communication with families and caregivers through meetings and updates to foster a strong partnership in supporting student success.
Qualifications
- Valid State of Maine teaching certification in special education (282) or equivalent credentials with endorsement for working with students with disabilities.
- Proven classroom experience in a special education setting, preferably in a self-contained or inclusive environment.
- Strong knowledge of childhood development, early intervention strategies, and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorders.
- Familiarity with curriculum development tailored for students with developmental disabilities and neurodevelopmental disorders.
- Proficiency in educational technology integration, lesson planning, literacy education, math instruction, and standardized testing procedures.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with students, families, staff, and community partners.
- Knowledge of behavioral health practices and behavior management techniques for students with special needs.
- Experience working within private school settings or Montessori preschool environments is a plus.
