The Maine Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is a non-profit organization that provides advocacy services for residents of nursing homes, residential care, assisted living, adult day services and for recipients of home care services. Join our growing team as a Regional Ombudsman to make a difference in the lives of older and disabled individuals who need long-term services and supports.
The title of the actual position is Regional Ombudsman position, and it requires frequent travel to visit residents of long-term care facilities. Knowledge of long-term services and supports, strong communication and interpersonal skills, professionalism, and problem-solving skills are important to the success of the role. The region of the state covered by this Regional Ombudsman will be based on the right candidate with Southern, Central and Mid-Coast Maine being the targeted areas of need.
The Regional Ombudsman is a hybrid position and may require some onsite work in the Augusta office. The ability to work independently while still being part of a strong team of advocates is necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a Regional Ombudsman, advocating for the rights and well-being of individuals in nursing homes, residential care, and assisted living facilities. Frequent travel required
- Resolve concerns identified by long-term care consumers regarding access to or quality of long-term care services
- Work collaboratively with the Department of Health and Human Services and other agencies.
- Conduct regular visits to facilities to monitor and assess the quality of care provided.
- Provide information and assistance to residents regarding their rights, available services, and complaint resolution processes.
- Collaborate with community organizations, government agencies, etc. to address systemic issues and improve the quality of care.
- Educate residents, families, and facility staff on resident rights and best practices in long-term care.
- Maintain accurate records of complaints, investigations, and resolutions.
The successful candidate will possess the following qualities:
- Bachelor’s degree in a health and human services related field OR an associate degree with 3 years of experience in long-term care service
- Must have reliable transportation
- Hybrid remote and on the road
- Extensive knowledge of Maine long-term care systems as well as aging and disability resource
- Excellent organizational and time management skill
- Ability to engage effectively in problem solving and empower others to do s
- Strong communication and interpersonal skill
- Problem-solving and mediation skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with a passionate team of advocates
