About Us

Maine Community Power Cooperative (MCPC) is a mission-driven start-up working to accelerate the clean energy transition by developing and delivering community solar projects that benefit Maine residents, businesses, and municipalities. As a cooperative, we are member-owned and rooted in a commitment to equity, sustainability, and local economic empowerment.

Position Overview

We’re looking for an energetic and mission-driven leader to head our cooperative’s membership engagement, growth, and satisfaction efforts. This role is central to building a diverse and thriving membership, fostering partnerships, and shaping our strategy to ensure the cooperative represents all Mainers.

This is a unique opportunity to help build the foundation of a fast-growing startup that’s disrupting the community solar industry. As with many early-stage roles, this position is multidisciplinary and will evolve over time. You’ll start hands-on, directly engaging with members and communities, and grow into leading a team as the organization scales.

We’re a small, collaborative team that supports one another. We’ll help you get your feet under you and work with you to build the systems and infrastructure needed for long-term success. This role reports to our Operations Manager, who will provide the data, materials, and resources needed to help you meet your goals

We are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply.

Key Responsibilities

In the first 90 days you will:

  • Get up to speed on the cooperative’s mission, model, and operations.
  • Develop a staged outreach strategy with clear goals for 3, 6, 9, and 12 months — including measurable outcomes and a concrete plan to achieve them.
  • Design a targeted engagement plan to reach marginalized communities historically excluded from environmental movements — including immigrant and refugee communities, tribal and Indigenous groups, and rural Mainers — ensuring their voices are represented in the cooperative.
  • Manage and improve the effectiveness of our direct mail campaign.
  • Take the lead on our social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn), including building a content calendar and growing our online presence.
  • Begin attending and hosting events (e.g., tabling, canvassing, webinars), with a goal of at least 6 engagements in your first 3 months.
  • Start building relationships with key partners: advocacy orgs, neighborhood associations, etc.
  • Outline a Youth Ambassadors program to connect with Maine schools and colleges.
  • Engage directly with existing and prospective members to listen, build trust, and align our efforts with their needs.
  • Enroll 75 new members.

In months 3-6 you will:

  • Reflect on your first 90 days with the team — refining your strategy and identifying what’s working, what needs adjustment, and what support you need.
  • Launch a plan to connect members with timely advocacy efforts statewide.
  • Collaborate with the team to refine our core messaging: how we talk about our work and the value we bring to members.
  • Launch the Youth Ambassadors program with real engagement events.
  • Build out a regular calendar of in-person and virtual events — both hosted by MCPC and with partners.
  • Represent MCPC at 2–3 partner-hosted events per month.
  • Enroll 300 total members by the end of month 6.

After your first 6 months you will:

  • Serve as a public-facing leader for MCPC at events across the state.
  • Represent our unique business model and vision — and communicate what sets us apart.
  • Grow and maintain a broad coalition of statewide partnerships.
  • Own and continuously improve our membership engagement and growth strategy.
  • Grow our cooperative to  600 members within 12 months.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will have the following qualifications and experiences. If your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification below, we still encourage you to apply.

  • 3 years of experience in marketing, community engagement, or organizing roles with increasing responsibility
  • Familiarity with community solar or renewable energy programs (a plus, but not required)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of working effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience developing a compelling social media voice and presence
  • Experience running both in-person and digital marketing campaigns, from canvassing to email outreach
  • Ability to define measurable goals, report on outcomes, and adapt strategies based on data and feedback
  • Comfort and confidence with public speaking in both in-person and virtual settings
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and communicate proactively about challenges
  • Experience working in a small, dynamic team — this role requires a high level of self-direction, but you’ll be supported by a collaborative and adaptable team that shares in each other’s goals and successes

Additionally, candidates must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable personal vehicle. This position will include travel throughout the state to attend events. MCPC pays/reimburses for travel expenses.
