The Town of Hartford, VT is seeking a highly skilled professional to serve as the Zoning Administrative Officer (ZA). The ZA is the principal municipal official who is responsible for interpreting, administering and enforcing Hartford's Land Use Regulations including the Zoning Regulations, Subdivision Regulations, Special Flood Hazard Area Regulations, and the Sign Ordinance as governed under 24 V.S.A. Chapter 117 and applicable State land use laws.
The ZA is primary point of contact for people seeking permits for land development. The ZA staffs the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Design Review Committee.
The ZA reports to the Director of the Department of Planning and Development.
Minimum qualifications include a four year degree in urban planning, public administration, civil engineering, law or other related discipline from an accredited college or university. A master’s degree is preferred. In addition, a minimum of 3 years of related experience demonstrating a knowledge and understanding of land use regulation or a combination of work and education meeting these requirements. The ZA must have above average written and verbal communication skills, the ability to use standard office equipment, and the ability to maintain and organize files and records.
The ideal candidate must be detail oriented, self-motivated, well-organized; able to manage multiple priorities; and have strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with other staff and the public. Pay range is $33.02 to $46.21 per hour.
