Position Summary
The Activities Assistant supports the Activities Director in providing meaningful, enjoyable, and individualized activities for residents in our small 30-bed nursing home. This position focuses on promoting residents’ social, emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being while creating a welcoming and positive environment.
The ideal candidate is compassionate, dependable, creative, patient, and enjoys working with older adults.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and conducting recreational and therapeutic activities for residents.
- Lead and assist with activities such as games, crafts, music, exercise, movies, social gatherings, and holiday events.
- Encourage resident participation while respecting individual preferences, abilities, and interests.
- Provide one-on-one activities and companionship for residents who are unable or prefer not to participate in group activities.
- Assist residents with safely getting to and from scheduled activities as needed.
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and engaging atmosphere for residents.
- Observe residents during activities and report changes in mood, behavior, participation, or condition to appropriate nursing staff.
- Assist with maintaining activity supplies, equipment, and activity areas in a clean and organized manner.
- Assist with documenting resident participation and other required activity documentation.
- Follow all facility policies, procedures, infection-control practices, and safety guidelines.
- Maintain resident privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
- Work cooperatively with nursing staff and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Active West Virginia CNA certification is required.
- Previous experience working in a nursing home, long-term care, assisted living, healthcare, or activities setting is preferred.
- Must demonstrate compassion, patience, dependability, and respect for older adults.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff.
- Must be able to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Must be dependable and available to work weekends.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
- Ability to assist residents with mobility and positioning within the scope of CNA training and facility policy.
- Ability to lift and carry activity supplies and equipment as needed.
- Ability to respond appropriately to resident needs and facility emergencies.
