QUALIFICATIONS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
- Graduate of an accredited food service program.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 1-year experience in institutional cooking with management responsibilities.
- Must hold valid California driver's license and be able to show proof of insurance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in an environment of extreme heat.
- Ability to see and make visual inspections and to read, interpret and follow recipes.
- Ability to smell and taste to determine freshness and proper seasoning.
- Ability to perform various repetitive motion tasks
- Able to operate a motor vehicle
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Schedule kitchen workflow to ensure timely meal preparation, service, and cleanup.
- Train and supervise kitchen staff and beneficiaries in food preparation techniques.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
- Maintain kitchen equipment and coordinate preventive and emergency repairs.
- Perform bi-weekly inventory and rotate food stock to ensure freshness.
- Order food within budget while meeting nutritional requirements.
- Maintain vendor relationships, including the local Food Bank.
- Manage petty cash for food purchases and maintain accurate records.
- Assist with menu planning and special events.
- Prepare and serve meals as needed.
- Coordinate with professional staff regarding beneficiary services.
- Communicate staffing needs to the Resident Manager and/or Center Administrator.
- Enforce personnel policies, including attendance, breaks, and safety requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Salvation Army policies and applicable health and safety regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding program and personnel matters.
- Obtain written approval from the Center Administrator for all overtime worked.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
