POSITION TITLE:         Kettle Driver

 REPORTS TO:              Corps Officer

 STATUS:                       Temporary/Seasonal, Non-Exempt

 WORK HOURS:           Monday through Saturday – some split shifts up to 40 hours a week.

                             Approximate start date is November 20th and working through December 24th.

THE SALVATION ARMY MISSION STATEMENT :

FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

Drive Bell Ringers, stands and collection buckets to their locations daily per the routes scheduled. Perform other Christmas related duties that require driving such as food pick up, toy collections pick ups and other duties as assigned by the Commanding Officer.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Your primary immediate supervisors are the Commanding Officers of the Tacoma Corps.  You will be directed by the Commanding Officers as it related to food and toy program pickups.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must posses a valid Washington State driver’s license.
  • Must pass The Salvation Army ‘s in hour driving test and Motor vehicles Records check.
  • Must be willing to continually lift 30 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

SUMMARY OF DRIVER DUTIES:

  1. Overview the daily kettle schedule as given to you by the Commanding Officers. Gather all supplies needed for the different locations (buckets, bells, aprons, etc.). Drive route daily delivering Bell Ringers or meeting Bell Ringers at their assigned post.
  2. As need by the Commanding Officers, aide in the formation of the daily schedule of workers. Give input on results and observations that would impact Bell Ringers performing their duties.
  3. Instruct Bell Ringers each day of their responsibilities: remain in the assigned location, ring their bell, and take the appropriate breaks and lunch as required.
  4. As directed by the Commanding Officers, perform “welfare” checks of the Bell Ringers throughout their shifts. Making notes of any violations by the Bell Ringers of their duties that you might observe.
  5. At the end of each location shift pick up the bucket for that shift and secure any other equipment that would no longer be needed by the Bell Ringer.
  6. Report any troubles immediately to the Commanding Officers.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, kneel and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  2. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, boxes of food or other objects and reach overhead.
  3. Ability to lift 30 pounds.
  4. Ability to operate a telephone.
  5. Ability to understand, use and respond to written information.
  6. Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  7. Ability to operate a pallet jack.
  8. Ability to perform all tasks as assigned

Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. The Salvation Army will attempt to satisfy requests as long as the accommodation needed is reasonable and no undue hardship would result.

A generous benefits package is included with full-time positions:  paid holidays, vacation time, sick time, and medical, vision, and dental insurance.

Health Insurance:  Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area.  Voluntary 1 and family coverage at additional cost.  Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered. 

Life and Voluntary Options.  An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees.  Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans:  Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave:  The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave:  12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months’ service time. 

Paid Vacation:

  • Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
  • Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
  • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months’ service time.

Paid Holidays:  13 designated holidays 1 floating holiday per year
