What are the responsibilities and job description for the Media Services Manager position at Main Line Unitarian Church?
Reports to: Senior Minister
Part-time: Up to 20 Hours/week. Hourly. On location Sundays and Fridays with remote attendance at weekly staff, worship and planning meetings. Flexibility to support additional worship services, meetings and events as needed.
The Media Services Manager will oversee production-related aspects of in-person, church worship services, events and online streaming. This role includes ensuring the smooth operation of technical equipment, managing a team of volunteers, coordinating with multiple staff and volunteer teams and creating an excellent worship experience for the congregation, both in-person and online.
Key Responsibilities
AV Setup & Maintenance
- Oversee the setup, operation and breakdown of all AV equipment for services, special events and other church gatherings.
- Ensure all audio equipment, cameras, and video systems are functioning properly before and during events.
- Coordinate with staff, volunteer teams and other members to understand needs and provide AV solutions.
Production Support for Services
- Collaborate with the Minister and worship team to plan and execute seamless services.
- Coordinate with musicians, singers and speakers to ensure smooth transitions between audio, visual and all cues.
- Manage the live streaming operations and ensure online services run smoothly.
- Manage the migration, editing, and post-production of event video content for online publication.
- Maintain and organize media archives and digital assets.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Maintain all media and A/V equipment and make recommendations and arrangements for repairs or improvements with church leaders within budget allowances.
- Develop a regular maintenance schedule for all AV systems and coordinate upgrades as new systems, needs or issues evolve with IT contractors.
- Troubleshoot issues quickly and effectively during services and events.
- Keep accurate inventory of all AV equipment and ensure proper storage and care.
Leadership and Volunteer Management
- Recruit, train and supervise media volunteers for AV and production roles and provide ongoing training to improve performance.
- Foster a team culture that promotes collaboration and effective problem-solving.
- Coordinate volunteer schedules and protocols to ensure media and technical production support needs are fully covered.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with A/V systems, live streaming technology, and production tools (e.g., soundboards, video switchers, lighting consoles and presentation software)
- Experienced with professional content editing and presentation tools and cloud-based collaboration tools to craft compelling, visually polished content across various platforms
- Demonstrated experience in recruiting, training and working with volunteers
- Strong leadership and interpersonal and customer service skills
- Proven success working both independently and as part of a team
- Detail-oriented, flexible, and able to adapt and creatively problem-solve under pressure.
Additional Qualifications (Preferred but not required)
- Experience in a church or ministry environment.
- Graphic design skills.
Work Schedule
- On-location Sunday and on Friday for setup and rehearsals
- Remote attendance at weekly planning and staff meetings and for planning
- Flexibility to support additional ministry services, events, meetings and production needs weekdays, evenings and weekends.
