LIGHTING DESIGN CONSULTANT
The Lighting Design Consultant focuses on providing design service for both walk-in and trade customers, and is a member of our sales team.
Design Service
Having a keen eye for design and an appreciation for different aesthetic styles is a top requirement. Design consultants help bring our customers’ visions to life, coordinating lighting items with the desired style and other elements in the space for a beautiful flow. Design consultants are knowledgeable of what products work in different spaces, the amount of light needed for its function, and able to mix items at price points to meet budget requirements.
Sales
We know good sales service begins with the first impression. Our design consultants are warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and experts at design and project management. We look for people who love to help people – with solid customer service skills. Happily greeting our customers and assisting with product selection in the showroom and online, following through to delivery. We focus on making the process easy and beautiful.
With varied activities in the day, our design consultants know how to multi-task and manage their time assisting walk-in customers and completing projects by deadline.
We want people who will work to meet, and strive to exceed, sales goals. Working to improve their approach and knowledge of brands and products. We offer networking opportunities to connect with others in the trade industry and potential new customers. When our team thrives, the company thrives.

Ideal Candidate Qualities
- Possesses a ‘can-do’, positive attitude toward the everyday tasks and sales goals
- Knowledgeable of lighting products and retail environment
- Experience designing residential and/or commercial projects
- Driven to meet sales goals and grow trade accounts with sales efforts
- Manage relationships with trade customers – contractors, developers, designers, and more
- Excellent time management skills, with ability to assist walk-in customers and complete projects to meet customer deadlines
- Knowledgeable of the Windward POS database program and XO Lights platform
- Capable of following orders through from start to delivery, ensuring order is complete and handling issues as they arise
- Helpful with tasks or projects as they see they need to be done or are asked to help
- Supports our mission and values
- Interior design education preferred
- Sales experience preferred but not required
- Developed project management skills - manage multiple projects and able to successfully complete them on time
- An eye for interior design and appreciation for many design styles
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Be a collaborative, team player
- Punctual - ready to start working at scheduled time
- Complete miscellaneous tasks and projects as requested
- Occasional travel to off-site events such as local home show and industry functions, training, and other events
- Basic computer skills required, ie, MS Outlook, Office, and a POS system
- Ability to work at least three Saturdays per month and Monday evenings in the showroom, and on Sundays for Home Show and Parade of Homes events
- Represent the company at industry and community events
