Duties
- Coordinate and process patient referrals across various medical specialties and services, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits through managed care systems, including insurance verification and eligibility checks.
- Maintain comprehensive medical records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
- Utilize medical terminology, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding to accurately document diagnoses and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and insurance representatives to resolve referral issues or discrepancies promptly.
- Manage incoming and outgoing medical records requests, ensuring proper documentation and secure handling of sensitive information.
- Support office operations by assisting with appointment scheduling, data entry, and maintaining organized filing systems related to referrals and medical documentation.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of managed care processes and insurance verification procedures.
- Proven experience in a medical office setting, preferably with dental or outpatient clinics.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security.
- Proficiency in medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10 coding, and medical records management.
- Excellent communication skills for liaising with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies.
