At Mahaska Health the primary role of the Resource CNA is to work under the supervision of a registered nurse and performs various services for a patient as necessary to meet the patient’s personal needs and to promote comfort, quality, continuity and safety of a patient’s care. The CNA is responsible for observing the patient, reporting these observations and documenting observations and care performed. This position will support staffing in Hospice, Inpatient, Birthing Center and Emergency Services.

- Is able to perform in a CNA role, competently, in all clinical departments.
- Is familiar with all nursing departments and can assist when necessary.
- May work multiple departments in one shift, or all hours in a single unit.
- Assumes and maintains responsibility for caseload as assigned and keeps supervisory personnel informed as the need arises.
- Performance of tasks associated with personal hygiene care i.e. bathing, shampooing, and dressing.
- Performance of tasks associated with activities of daily living i.e. housekeeping, laundry, meal prep, etc.
- Performance of tasks associated with the mobility of clients i.e. transfers, assisting with ambulation, repositioning.
- Accurately performs and documents patient’s vital signs.
- Accurately completes daily documentation as required, time sheet, clinical notes, etc.
- Communicates readily with clients and staff.
- Dedication to customer service for patients, families, visitors, providers and co-workers throughout the partnership.
- Displays therapeutic, empathetic and courteous communication with patients and their families.
- Organizes workload effectively to accomplish care and documentation in a timely manner.
- Able to adapt to change in workload in a constructive/appropriate manner.
- Flexible and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.

- Conduct self in accordance with Mahaska Health’s confidentiality policy; ensuring to follow all MHP training guidelines in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.

- Track lab/x-ray status and results; file reports in appropriate patient charts; communicate to nurse and/or provider when all results received.
- Review charts for completion by nurse and/or provider following patient discharge.
- Assist in contacting on-call physicians, requesting helicopters, scheduling of follow-up procedures and appointments.
- Assist in cleaning, prep and stocking of ED exam rooms between patients.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
- 75-hour CNA course certification required.
- Must be listed on the Iowa Nurse Aide Registry at time of hire.
- Required to be current in BLS (Basic Life Support) by the standards of the American Heart Association.
