What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard position at Mahaska County YMCA?

The Mahaska County YMCA is looking for individuals who have a passion for safety and risk management around water. Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, lifeguards will:
- Ensure the safety of pool patrons
- Remain alert and attentive while onduty
- Participate in regular inservice trainings
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with members, program participants, and colleagues
- Maintain records as required
- Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures
REQUIREMENTS
Candidates will not be considered if they do not have a current lifeguard certification.
Must be:
- At least 16 years of age
- Proficient in swimming
- Willing and able to participate in regular inservice trainings and apply proper rescue and firstaid techniques (including extracting individuals from the pool to the deck with some assistance)
- Able to sit, kneel, stand, stoop, reach and manipulate objects
- Able to use hands to handle, feel, or operate lifesaving equipment
- Able to receive and respond to visual and audial cues (see below)
- Able to observe and interpret people and situations, as well as analyze and solve problems
The position requires mobility, and attentiveness to visual and audial cues (for recognition and identification of swimmers in distress or in process of unsafe behaviors). Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades, depth perception, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
