The pharmacy technician assists licensed pharmacists with the preparation and distribution of prescribed medications. Under the supervision of the pharmacist, the pharmacy technician fills orders, which may include IV medications, or restocking dispensing cabinets, and maintains inventory.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Inpatient Pharmacy Technician:
- Maintain Inventory Supply
- Verifies drug order, keeps records of invoices and credits, and delivers invoices to accounting for payment according to hospital policy
- Orders and processes order using Sentry and Amerisource Passport efficiently
- Monitors drug shortages and effectively minimizes impact
- Accurately picks medications to fill RxStations and floor stock medications for nursing units
- Fills patient specific medications and loads them into the RxStation efficiently
- Utilizes all standards from USP797 to appropriately compound sterile IV solutions
- Effectively operates Equashield CSTD for all chemotherapy medications
- Documents all required checks and inspections, including temperature logs, humidity, pressure gauges, cleaning and monthly Isolator cleaning
- Charges and verifies charges for patients for appropriate medications for surgery, outpatient doses, and vaccines when necessary.
- Utilizes the Cerner system efficiently
- Utilizes time in most effective and productive manner and completes tasks at the prescribed time
- Completes assigned daily, weekly and monthly duties, including unit inspections and outdates
- Participates in the proper storage of medications and maintains organization of the pharmacy department
- Completes Unit Dose Packaging and Narcotic Orders
- Performs unit dose packaging of medications from bulk supplies in accordance with departmental policies and maintains proper records
- Accurately prepares and delivers narcotic orders while keeping physical count recorded accurately.
- Completes all associated narcotic documentation in accordance with state and federal laws.
- Accurately uses appropriate mechanism to alert pharmacist of required items, including medications for patients.
- Receives and relays communication from other departments effectively
- Answers phone calls and in-person requests politely and respectfully and communicates any issues requiring pharmacist attention to appropriate personnel
- Assists or serves on hospital committees
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions; ensures compliance with Joint Commission and other external and internal regulatory agencies.
- Maintains the integrity of confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policy, including accessing, using and disclosing patient information relevant to the individual employee’s job duties. Also maintains confidentiality of other customer and hospital business affairs.
- Adheres to the standards of Magruder Hospital’s corporate compliance policies and seeks guidance and training when necessary to resolve questions about the policies. Reports violations in accordance with corporate compliance and organizational standards.

- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Excellent customer service skills
- Attention to detail and organized
- 1 year hospital pharmacy experience (Inpatient Pharmacy Tech only)
Associates Degree or graduate of Pharmacy Technician Program

- Ohio Board of Pharmacy Registration (Registered Pharmacy Technician level)
