JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

  • This position provides direct environmental, safety, and health support for MAGRIS Talc operations in Montana. Monitors and supports operational and administrative compliance with EHS regulations and MAGRIS policies by either performing the following duties personally or through appropriate location personnel and where necessary through contract service providers.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct job exposure analyses to ensure safe work environments according to EHS standards.
  • Develop, implement, and administer environmental safety and health programs
  • Oversee and actively manage operating permits and associated monitoring, sampling and reporting requirements for all Montana sites
  • Own and manage the Environmental Management Systems
  • Participate in both internal and external auditing of EHS and Quality Management Systems
  • Coordinate and Co-conduct EHS Training
  • Organize and complete MSHA ART for all MT sites
  • Implement programs, policies, and assessments to ensure the company is in compliance with all state, federal and internal health, safety and environmental rules
  • Gather data, review reports and findings to monitor performance and detect trends related to environmental, health and safety
  • Initiate and complete root cause analysis for all LTA, NLTA and SPI events in Montana
  • Prepares updates and maintains necessary permits, reports or forms required by governmental agencies
  • Provide direct management of EHS intern(s)
  • Reports EHS key performance indicators
  • Provides guidance to the site management teams on applicable programs, practices, and existing/proposed local, State and Federal regulations
  • Maintains records of environmental incidents and responses as required by law.
  • Maintains current working knowledge of Federal, State and local environmental and occupational health regulations 
  • Serves as contact with MSHA, EPA, DEQ or other regulatory body in designated areas
  • Chair meetings as needed and in absence of manager 
  • Performs other duties as required


JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, occupational safety, industrial technology, or a related field preferred. 
  • Three (3) or more years of relevant work experience required. 
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance, permitting, incident investigation, and reporting protocols. 
  • Ability to research and analyze information and draw valid conclusions. 
  • Skilled in training and motivating employees. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions. 
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Strong understanding of applicable federal and Montana environmental regulations and MSHA regulations. 
  • Experience with environmental permitting requirements. 
  • MSHA Blue Card preferred; candidates without current certification may be considered, provided they are able to obtain certification within one (1) year of hire. 

 Ability to obtain and maintain the following certifications within one (1) year of hire: 

  • Visible Opacity Certification 
  • Water Operator Certification 
  • DOT Hazmat Awareness Certification

Knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics:

  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Good people skills
  • Skilled in the use of computerized software, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes.
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Strong presentation, negotiation, verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and capable of multi-tasking, evaluating and prioritizing several projects


SPECIFIC ASPECTS

  • Work in an office setting with frequent visits to the mine or mill sites, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
  • Physical requirements are: Sitting 50% of time and walking/standing 50% of time.
  • Manual dexterity, keyboard skills, ability to drive.
