The Machinist Supervisor oversees daily machining operations within the manufacturing environment. This role ensures production meets quality, safety, and efficiency standards while leading and developing a team of machinists, programmers, and machine operators. The supervisor is responsible for workflow planning, troubleshooting equipment issues, and maintaining a high-performance, continuous‑improvement culture.
Key Responsibilities, Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise, train, and mentor machinists and machine operators across all shifts.
- Assign daily work, monitor productivity, and balance workloads to meet production targets.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development plans.
- Enforce company policies, safety rules, and standard operating procedures.
Machining & Production Oversight
- Oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC and manual machines (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.).
- Review and interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings.
- Ensure tooling, fixtures, materials, and equipment are available and functioning properly.
- Troubleshoot machining issues, adjust programming parameters, and support operators with complex setups.
Quality & Compliance
- Monitor production to ensure parts meet specifications and quality standards.
- ·Collaborate with Quality Assurance to resolve non-conformances and root‑cause issues.
- ·Maintain accurate documentation including production logs, inspection reports, and maintenance records.
- ·Ensure compliance with safety regulations and internal quality systems.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements to increase throughput.
- Support Lean, 5S, and Six Sigma initiatives.
- Recommend equipment upgrades, tooling changes, and process optimizations.
Qualifications – Required
- High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
- 5 years of machining experience, including setup and operation.
- 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of machining principles, GD&T, and blueprint reading.
- Proficiency with CNC controls such as Fanuc, Haas, or Okuma.
- Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
Qualifications – Preferred
- Technical degree or certification in machining or manufacturing technology.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam or Fusion 360.
- Lean/Continuous Improvement or Six Sigma training.
- Experience in high‑precision industries such as aerospace or medical manufacturing.
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to noise and machinery.
- Frequent standing up to 100%
- Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
