- Responsible for the set-up and changeover of assigned machines to meet the production schedule including tooling preparation for changeover and cleaning of old tooling.
- Train and assist machine operators on changes and minor offset adjustments.
- Follow established work instructions for part being produced.
- Troubleshoot process and equipment inefficiencies and perform assigned preventative maintenance duties on equipment as required.
- Monitor first and last offs ensuring that quality of parts produced meet customer specifications.
- Report any non-conformances to Quality Assurance and shift supervisor.
- Ensure that all set-ups and repairs are done in a manner that will ensure the company’s objectives are met with respect to minimizing downtime, scrap and tooling costs.
- Cleaning, inspecting, organizing and arranging servicing of tooling as required.
- Provide continuous improvement suggestions/ideas to enhance the set-up operation.
- Provide information for equipment downtime and equipment related cost reports in order to monitor cost reduction.
- Participate in new program launches: tooling design review; prototype run activity; pre-launch or production trial run activity.
- Ensure production equipment is in good/safe working condition.
- Work with setup team in other shifts to ensure a smooth transition and change over.
- Work as a team member and pass on skills, knowledge and/or understanding of MPT Sterling Heights to other employees.
- Provide feedback to production supervisor, machine operators and appropriate staff regarding concerns, problem areas or deficiencies to ensure corrective action is taken.
- Participate in team problem solving and preventive/corrective action as required.
- Comply with the applicable responsibilities related to effective quality management in accordance with MPT Sterling Heigh Quality Management System (QMS) IATF 16949.
- Support IATF 16949, ISO, MAFACT, Kaizen, TPM and any other initiatives & requirements.
- Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
- Follow MPT Sterling Heights Environmental, Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Follow the guidelines and rules as set out by the Employee Handbook and MPT Sterling Heights policies and procedures.
- Ensure that machines are in a safe state, i.e. locked-out if applicable, during set-up.
- Ensure all workplace accidents, injuries and/or illnesses are reported immediately to the Production Supervisor.
- Ensure that all procedures pertaining to machine set-up are carried out according to established processes.
- When discrepancies are found, report such to the Production Supervisor immediately.
- Evacuate the building immediately once fire alarm sounds.
- Inform Production Supervisor of any repairs required to machines or other equipment.
- Support all plant ISO initiatives & requirements. Perform pre-use inspection of forklift before use.
- As part of pre-use inspection, ensure forklift is in good working condition.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Apply good housekeeping standards and maintain work environment in a clean and safe condition, adhering to applicable health and safety issues.
- Ensure knowledge obtained during training is applied. Ensure Production Supervisor is made aware of any uncertainty you may have regarding the operation of equipment, machine or device prior to beginning to work.
- Comply with the designated responsibilities related to effective environmental management in accordance with MPT Sterling Heights Environmental Management System (EMS).
- Expected requirements based on ISO 14001/ISO 45001: Employees are trained on all significant Environmental aspects associated with their work.
- Conduct work in compliance with the applicable Environmental and Safety regulations, ISO14001/ISO 45001 standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required. Experience in metal stamping, progressive, transfer, and line dies.
- Knowledge of MIOSHA standards.
- Able to work independently.
- Ability to work with others in a fast-paced team environment.
- Ability to exercise initiative, common sense and ability to maintain effective internal and external working relationships.
- Highly organized, self-starter with a positive attitude.
- Flexibility to work extra hours when needed and different shifts.
- Excellent attendance and performance record.
- Must be able to pass the Tool & Die aptitude testing at Macomb Community College.
- Must have own tools or be able to purchase own tools. High School Diploma (grade 12) required. Six (6) months to one (1) year of production experience in a Tier 1 automotive manufacturing environment required. Strong knowledge of Flexplate processes mandatory.
- Previous set-up experience preferred.
- Physically capable of performing all required job duties in a production environment.
- Accountable for work performed.
- Able to work overtime or off-shift as required. Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with people at all levels, both inside and outside the organization.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must have technical math skills (grade 12 level) and possess a good mechanical aptitude. Knowledge of SPC Level 1.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others. Able to travel outside Canada to customer sites if required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must be able obtain Hi-lo & Crane permits.

- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software, Autocad, internet software, manufacturing software, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), AS400.
Communication Skills:
- Strong communication (oral and written) skills.
- Ability to use active listening and assertive communication when needed.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes. While on the plant floor the employee is exposed to levels of vibration. The noise level in the production environment is usually moderate to loud.
