JOB DESCRIPTION – PRODUCTION MANAGER

POSITION SUMMARY
The Production Manager is a wide-ranging, key leadership role responsible for designing, controlling, and continuously improving the execution of all production activities with an emphasis on safety, efficiency, Lean, communication, and inter-department organization of materials and people. The Production Manager must have a high understanding of the following key aspects of manufacturing production:
- Ensuring that safety policies and procedures are followed on a consistent basis
- Creation and control of labor-loaded production schedules
- Ability to forecast and balance capacity vs. demand
- Identification and elimination of bottlenecks before they impact production
- Communication of production goals and tasks to key leadership staff
- Driving multi-project flow efficiency across all departments
- Ensuring materials, labor, and work packages are aligned ahead of execution
- Recommendation of improvements to Management with an eye for practicality and scalability
- Alignment of day-to-day tasks, duties, projects and responsibilities with long-term strategic operational vision
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordination, leadership and high-level oversight over multiple departments and shop processes, all with an emphasis on safety and productivity
- Creation of labor-loaded schedules, with emphasis on available labor hours, equipment capacity, shop constraints, production output, labor demand, and delivery timelines
- Ability to identify Quality issues quickly, and provide solutions promptly to prevent Quality Control delays
- Working, extensive knowledge of QMS execution and maintenance processes to ensure individual and collective productivity
- Identification of production constraints before impact, e.g. labor shortages, equipment limitations, material delays, QC hold points, et al.
- Implementation of production pinch point solutions, e.g. labor shifting, work resequencing, process batching, temporary resource reallocation, et al.
- Active management of crew sizes, skill alignment, and department loads, with the intra-day ability to shift labor priorities based on production needs, bottlenecks, and miscellaneous changes in production priorities
- Evaluation and improvement of inefficiencies based on Lean principles as well as departmental feedback, direction from General Management and key stakeholders
- Design production to support multiple jobs moving simultaneously, shared resource utilization, and continuous department loads
- Direction and optimization of material intake, inventory staging and outbound shipping to ensure on-time delivery of materials and products
- Creation and delivery of reports for different KPIs across different aspects of production which cover capacity vs. load, labor utilization, rework and quality impacts, delays and root causes, forecasted completion dates, et al. Reporting structure must allow for targets and deliver solutions for progressive target attainability
- Identification and implementation of process improvements, workflow optimizations and labor-saving strategies
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED, plus a minimum of seven (7) years in a Fabrication shop operations or industrial manufacturing environment
- A minimum of three (3) years in a Production Management leadership role with exposure to multi-project workflows, high-mix production environments, and coordination of people and material into a cohesive Production line
- AIPMM, PMI, PMP, CMPO and Lean Six Sigma Certifications preferred
