What are the responsibilities and job description for the Venture Analyst position at Magid & Company?
Magid & Company is an alternative model in early stage venture. We work alongside founders, helping them navigate and optimize fundraising for Series A-C rounds.
Magid has helped founders raise $1.7 billion across 52 rounds. We are the secret weapon used by generational founders to deliver exceptional fundraises.
We've built a new advisory model: we earn equity in the companies we advise and back select founders ourselves, building a concentrated portfolio using our own balance sheet. We think of it as a merchant bank - mixing some of our favorite ideas from venture and finance. We only win when our founders win.
The Magid playbook is built on learnings from guiding hundreds of top startups from Series A through IPO, as well as seed investments in companies like Scale, Deel, Groww, BillionToOne, and Ro.
- Source founders: We’ve built a quiet but powerful brand on our unique value proposition serving founders. We host founder events, work with seed investors, VCs, and accelerators. We also publish weekly market research to reach thousands of founders and investors each week.
- Assist fundraises: We work formally with a small number of founders and operate as a hands-on advisor. We help optimize storytelling, relationships, negotiation, and process-driven fundraising. In the process we become their most trusted partner.
- Build products for founders: We arm founders with the best data to understand the venture market and tooling to fundraise. Building products and bringing direct value to founders is core to our brand.
You will work directly with Aaron Harris (Magid founder and former YC Partner 2013-2021), as part of the larger Magid team. Magid is still young, so you will work across every function of the business, every day.
What kinds of people will enjoy working at Magid:
- You’re a data and venture nerd. You started a company, worked at a VC, or cut your chops at an investment bank.
- You have a founder mindset. You operate autonomously like an owner, doing anything necessary from sales to marketing to research to running events
- You are extremely trustworthy. You’ll have extensive access to confidential information at top startups. Your integrity and professionalism must be beyond reproach.
- (Bonus: You’ve spent time with founders. You know how to pitch a venture narrative, build relationships with investors, and run a fundraise. You bring your own unique network and are excited to grow it further.)
This opportunity offers something different from other roles in venture and startups. You’ll get unparalleled insight into how top-tier venture fundraising actually happens while working alongside exceptional founders.
We typically spend months helping founders build their strategies and prepare for their fundraises. As trusted advisors, we’re in a privileged position. Founders are extremely honest with us, and give us a front row look into how they and their businesses operate. You will roll up your sleeves to impact mission-critical outcomes and build deep, long-term relationships in the process.
If your goal is to up your game as an investor and operator - especially if you think of yourself as a hybrid of the two, or have founder ambitions - Magid will help you build differentiated access and a powerful network. You’ll become a part of our elite and emerging brand, and get to know our portfolio founders who are passionate advocates for Magid.
As far as we know, we’re the only ones doing this. There’s a unique opportunity ahead to scale our model, while building a top-performing equity portfolio without relying on a fund.
