ORGANIZATION:

The Magic City Discovery Center (MCDC) focuses on all children of all ages and their families and caregivers. MCDC’s mission is to engage children and families in the magic of life-long learning through discovery, creativity, and play. REPORTS TO:

Discovery Guide Supervisor

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Discovery Guide works with all areas of the discovery center to support the Discovery Guide Supervisor and others with carrying out our mission. Will be responsible for greeting and interacting with visitors, maintaining a clean and tidy floor, and will provide assistance as needed to the other Discovery Guides on the floor.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Live out MCDC Mission, Vision, and Core Values
• Ensure security, integrity, and confidentiality of MCDC data and information
• Greet Visitors with positivity and enthusiasm and educate children and adults about educational aspects of the exhibits
• Capture moments of learning and engagement through pictures and videos and forward to marketing (pending guardian permission)
• Ensure stock and maintenance for Creativity Studio and Makerspace activities
• Direct visitors to exhibits/floors/elevators/events/etc
• Assist the supervisor with birthday party set up, monitoring of party, tear down, etc
• Opening and closing procedures
• Ensure facility standards are met at time of opening and throughout the day
• Notify supervisor of exhibit issues or malfunctions
• Daily cleaning of exhibits, touch points, and manipulatives
• Enforce all Discovery Center rules
• Identify and correct unsafe behavior of visitors

• Works well with families and children
• Strong people skills
• Strong communication skills
• Strong collaborative & team building skills
• Must be able to lift, sit, stand, carry, pull, climb, and push objects
• Able to stand/walk for extended periods of time
• Technology skills preferred to recognize exhibit issues and work with exhibit technologies
