Overview:
Magellan Tutoring is seeking a dedicated and experienced SAT Tutor to join our team. Candidates must reside within 15 miles of Arlington, VA. The ideal applicant will have a strong background in both SAT Math and SAT Reading/Writing, and a proven track record of helping students achieve significant score improvements.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Please only apply if you are highly proficient and comfortable tutoring BOTH the Math and the Reading/Writing sections of the SAT. We are not currently hiring single-subject tutors for this role. You'll take a student through Math and Reading & Writing yourself, rather than splitting them with a second tutor. We're not placing single-section tutors right now, so please only apply if you're strong in both. A useful benchmark: 700 or above on each section, which is roughly the top 10% of test takers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop personalized SAT prep plans tailored to individual student needs.
- Provide comprehensive instruction in SAT Math and SAT Reading/Writing.
- Use our proprietary SAT platform to track student progress and adjust teaching strategies based on assessment data.
- Assign appropriate modules and work with students on each topic accordingly.
- Teach strategies for effectively approaching the SAT, including time management, focus areas, and test-taking techniques.
- Employ a variety of teaching methods to ensure student engagement and understanding.
- Offer constructive feedback and support to help students build confidence and improve their test-taking skills.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Education, Mathematics, English, or a related field.
- Experience in helping students improve their SAT scores, with a proven track record of increasing scores by 100-200 points on average.
- Strong SAT scores (ideally in the 90th percentile or higher) in both Math and Reading/Writing sections.
- Familiarity with the digital SAT format, or the appetite to get up to speed quickly.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and positive learning environment.
- (Preferred) Experience working with students who require testing accommodations.
