BUILDING MATERIALS BUYER

Mafriq is a Mauritian based international trading house specializing in the trade of FMCG's, fruit and vegetables, meat, wines and building materials to various countries throughout the world

We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated professional to join our Procurement team as a Building Materials Buyer. The candidate will be responsible for overseeing the procurement of building materials and commodity items like plywood, wood, steel and construction material

Key responsibilities include the following:

· Procure and source building materials internationally.

· Build strategic relationships with new and existing suppliers (locally and internationally).

· Problem solving and claim resolution

· Negotiation of pricing and settlement discounts

· Identify product opportunities in new and existing markets

Experience and skills:

· Procurement knowledge: understanding of procurement principles, processes and best practices. Understanding of pricing, claims and value chains.

· Industry experience: Familiarity with building materials, construction industry trends and market dynamics.

· Supply chain management: knowledge of supply chain operations, logistics and inventory management.

· Export knowledge: previous experience working in an export environment and a good working knowledge of incoterms.

· Negotiation and Communication: Effective communication and negotiation skills to deal with suppliers (payment terms, pricing deals, settlement discounts and rebates)

· Proficiency in English is required and French would be a bonus.

· Analytical skills: Ability to analyse market trends, pricing and supplier performance.

Qualifications:

· 5 years’ experience in the Building Material Procurement industry

· A degree or diploma in Supply Chain Management or a related field.

· Understanding of Exports and Logistics would be advantageous

· Proven negotiation skills

· Successful track record of buying

· Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Work Location: In person
