Tax Accountant

A nationally recognized construction leader, is seeking a talented Tax Accountant to join its finance team.
Position Overview
The Tax Accountant will oversee all aspects of the company’s tax compliance and planning. Working closely with external CPAs, this role ensures that all federal, state, and local tax obligations are met accurately and on time. Beyond compliance, the Tax Accountant will play a strategic role in identifying opportunities for efficiencies, mitigating risk, and supporting the company’s continued growth across its diverse portfolio of projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage the preparation, review, and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns in coordination with external accounting partners.
- Oversee multi-state compliance including income, sales, use, and property taxes.
- Research new and existing tax regulations relevant to the construction, design-build, and solar industries to ensure proactive compliance.
- Evaluate tax implications for new projects, contracts, and business initiatives.
- Monitor state nexus requirements and manage registrations and filings as needed.
- Maintain accurate tax schedules, reconciliations, and documentation to support all filings.
- Assist with quarterly and annual tax provisions, estimates, and forecasts.
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and explanations of tax positions.
- Collaborate with accounting and finance leadership to ensure proper reporting of tax-related transactions in the general ledger.
- Identify process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance across the tax function.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or EA preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in tax accounting, ideally within the construction or multi-state sector.
- Solid understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Direct experience handling income, sales, use, and property tax compliance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
