- Day Shift: 7am to 4:30pm | 3 day schedule with 1 weekend day included
- Swing Shift: 2pm to 11:30pm | 3 day schedules with 1 weekend day included
- On-Call needed as well

POSITION SUMMARY
The Wellness Counselor provides behavioral support to adolescents who are receiving treatment in a 24/7 psychiatric residential level of care. The Wellness Counselor demonstrates interventions that are trauma-informed and culturally appropriate and responsive, in collaboration with and under the guidance of a multi-disciplinary behavioral health care team.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One year work experience or volunteer activities in a youth related field.
- High School diploma or GED.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- QMHA-I or SUDP/T or above, or equivalent from another state.
- Bachelor's degree in a behavioral health related field or equivalent experience.
- At least two years of full-time care experience helping adolescents with emotional, behavioral, and substance use problems, preferably in a residential treatment or hospital setting.
- Must demonstrate an ability to navigate workplace conflicts and differences using non-violent, direct, and respectful communication in a diverse environment
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrate therapeutic boundaries, a supportive approach and safe behaviors with adolescents.
- Utilize approved behavioral support such as collaborative problem solving to support youth toward developing skills and safe decision making.
- Uphold and communicate appropriate and respectful boundaries with and between clients consistently.
- Adheres to team decisions regarding appropriate interventions for clients.
- Communicates and completes required documentation related to client behaviors, incidents, and challenges using strengths-based, factual language according to policy and within 24 hours
- Observed responsiveness with clients during crisis using trauma informed and evidence-based practices.
- Always follows policy and procedure (e.g., client rights standards, confidentiality, infection control standards, environment of care standards, emergency procedures, close observation protocols, etc.)
- Committed to following legal and ethical norms and expectations as outlined by State law, Federal law, Joint Commission, NAADAC and OSHA. Follows reporting procedures to ensure client and staff safety.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing to the high school grade level. Ability to apply a culturally appropriate and humble lens to client and colleague relationships and appropriately address conflict in order to create a working environment and is equitable and inclusive.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws (e.g. HIPAA, 42 CFR Pt. 2)
- Working knowledge of the age-specific, diagnostic-specific, and cultural-specific needs of the population served.
- Working knowledge of clients' rights, abuse reporting laws, and crisis intervention/de-escalation techniques.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, and SPECIAL DEMANDS

- Ability to hear/perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 dB loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction
- Ability to perform grasping and repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers
- Ability to occasionally carry or lift program materials of up to 15 pounds. (i.e. clients' belongings, etc.)
- Ability to see with a minimum standard of visual acuity, with or without correction, that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe clients on the unit and in therapeutic activities. Ability to distinguish colors.
- Ability to occasionally assist in the physical management of clients, requiring bending, stooping, twisting, grasping and lifting of up to 65 pounds from a squat.
- Ability to appropriately handle biohazardous/infectious waste on an occasional basis in accordance with safety policies and training
