Recovery Care- Veterinary Assistant Days

Madison Veterinary Specialists is a growing 24/7 comprehensive, state of the art emergency, specialty and critical care facility that partners with family veterinarians to provide compassionate care to companion animals.

Madison Veterinary Specialists is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery Recovery team. This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for someone with previous hands-on veterinary experience who is comfortable monitoring and caring for hospitalized surgical patients, recognizing changes in patient status, assessing pain, administering medications, and working alongside veterinary technicians and specialists in a fast-paced specialty hospital.

Required:

• Previous experience as a veterinary assistant in a general practice, emergency, or specialty hospital.
• Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology.
• Experience monitoring hospitalized patients and recognizing changes in patient condition.
• Comfortable administering oral and injectable medications under the direction of a veterinarian or CVT.
• Strong patient restraint skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Preferred:

• Experience caring for post-operative patients.
• Experience running in-house laboratory equipment (IDEXX preferred).
• Experience with electronic medical records.

Requirements:

• Previous surgical veterinary assistant experience is preferred. At a minimum previous pet experience is required.
• Ability to work independently with diverse teams
• Ability to prioritize animal safety, care acuity, and client needs
• Completion of 4 years of high school or equivalent degree is required.
• Physical: Must have the strength and stamina to work on feet throughout shift and lift up to 30 pounds.
• Ergonomic: An employee in this position must be capable of safely working in environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials, infectious and zoonotic diseases.
• Other: An employee in this position must have a strong sense of helping clients and caring for animals and to assist with emergency or critical-care patients as needed. Maintain strict confidence regarding client and patient information. Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
