Madison Ranches Inc is a fourth generation family farm located near Hermiston, Oregon that is looking for some additional talent to help with crop production. We specialize in the production of alfalfa seed, alfalfa hay, blue grass seed, canola, fresh yellow and red onions, wheat seed, corn seed, and field corn. We are seeking a motivated, organized, and experienced individual to help with crop production. This position offers professional growth potential as we plan to continue with a steady growth model. This position would report directly to and communicate daily with the farm lead agronomist. The primary function of this position is to manage all aspects of crop production in your zone and coordinate your needs with the chemistry/fertility central functions position. The central function of this position will be to oversee all tillage operations farm wide regardless of zone assignment. Madison Ranches is a drug free work place.
Position: Crop Production Specialist
Qualifications:
-Clean driving record and a valid driver’s license.
- Minimum 5 yrs experience in irrigated farming with 3 yrs of chemical application through ground rig and pivot.
- Must be able to keep very detailed records of all production aspects including application records for seed, chemicals, and fertility.
- Must be able to work closely with others and be able to communicate expectations or questions clearly.
- Bachelor’s degree in Ag related field such as agronomy, crops & soils science, or production ag is preferred, but the right experience won’t go overlooked.
- Must have a safe working mindset.
- Collaborative, positive attitude and ability to lead by example and with hands on when required.
- Must be able to pass test for or possess Oregon private pesticide applicators license.
- Must possess strong equipment knowledge to ensure proper settings and operations.
- Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish as a second language would be a plus.
- Must be able to maintain performance and effective communication under pressure.
- Willing to participate in companywide monthly random drug testing program.
Position Responsibilities:
- Coordinating daily field operations with Lead Agronomist.
- Communicate with operators about priorities and expectations for various field operations.
- Inspect and ensure that equipment is field ready BEFORE it is needed in the field.
- Helping to set up and calibrate seeding equipment for proper seeding rates (grain drill, planter, and air drill).
- Making sure field conditions and equipment settings are adequate for planting by ensuring proper seed depth, moisture, and seed to soil contact.
- Scouting fields for insects and weeds, monitoring soil moisture, and observing crop health.
- Collecting soil and/or plant tissue samples as needed.
- Operate ground rig sprayer in various crops and understand the role different nozzles and environmental conditions play in the application of pesticides.
- Set up and calibrate application of chemicals/fertility through pivot irrigation system.
- Checking behind combines to ensure proper settings as well as some periodic time operating a combine in various crops.
