Position Title:  Assistant Principal 

Length of Work Yr: 11 months

Salary Range: $ 83,487       

Placement based on degree and experience

Department: Madison No.1 Middle School

Reports To: School Principal

 

SUMMARY:

Provides functional and productive leadership in support of the principal at the school level for the purpose of qualitatively improving the educational program; accountable for student educational progress and achievement. Works with faculty and staff integrating ideas, materials, and people into a harmonious working unit for the achievement of District and School mission and District goals and objectives through participatory management and decision making process. Executes both executive and educational responsibilities. Evaluates programs and staff to ensure continued student academic program and achievement. Promotes career excellence through standard evaluations, Functions effectively as a member of the Administrator Leadership Team.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Under the leadership of the school principal, to provide functional and productive leadership at the school level for the purpose of improving support services for students.
  • Share with the principal the responsibility for ensuring a safe and orderly school and learning environment
  • Assist students to succeed with academic, interpersonal and behavioral needs and goals.
  • Assist in the interpretation of school and District programs, policies and procedures to students, parents, staff and community.
  • Assist the principal in the reporting and monitoring of student attendance
  • Implement the District’s rules and regulations for violation of the school discipline code.  Collect, record, evaluate and report data on student disruption to the school staff and District Office
  • Work with referred students for the purpose of modifying inappropriate behavior
  • Participate in the coordination, implementation and supervision of extra-curricular and co-curricular programs at the school
  • Conducts group and/or individual counseling sessions with students referred by staff members, administration and parents
  • Implement effective home, school, and community relations on behalf of students
  • Conduct re-entry conferences with students who have been absent from school for extended periods
  • Assist the school staff in the development and implementation of school-wide and classroom management strategies to effective desired behavior change
  • Communicate with community and government agencies concerning the needs of the students: i.e., drug abuse, truancy, counseling, and social services, etc.
  • Assist the instructional staff in the implementation of student assessment programs
  • Implement effective home-school and community relations on behalf of students
  • Perform other tasks and assumes additional responsibilities as assigned by the principal

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

All personnel assigned to the campus for which the assistant principal is responsible.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
  • Arizona Principal Certification or ability to complete by December 2026
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree (required)
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a Teacher on Assignment or Assistant Principal
  • Knowledge and skill in student guidance techniques based upon academic preparation or experience
  • Knowledge of school-aged and family services within the community
  • Demonstrated experience in working with multicultural student populations
  • Demonstrated experience in working with Behavior Management System
  • Knowledge and demonstrated skills related to effective teaching, learning and leadership skills

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.  Ability to write simple correspondence in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to speak effectively with other employees and/or students in English. Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, other employees and/or students in English.  Ability to speak and present effectively before vendors, administration and staff.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers,

employees, clients,  customers, and/or the general public.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to effectively present information to administrators, top management, public groups/community, and Governing Board.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions,  proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply financial concepts such as compound interest, time value of money, tax rates and discounts.




REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply simple understanding to carry out detailed but basic written and/or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:. Ability to work in a friendly manner and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the community.   Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and board policies.
