Environmental Adaptability
Under the general supervision of the Director of Mental Health and Well-Being, the primary purpose of this position is to support schools’ access to mental health partnerships and programs that improve student well-being. This position will support the development and implementation of new and existing partnerships in the mental health and wellness arena. By working with schools and community partners to identify needs, develop and strengthen systems to improve these partnerships and programs, navigate district partnership requirements, and offer ongoing support for implementation and sustainability, this position will increase student access to high-quality, culturally relevant mental health services.
This role also involves close collaboration with colleagues in the Department of Student & Staff Support to advance the department-wide focus on supporting school-based student services teams, developing district-wide best practices for delivering evidence-based tiered supports, and aligning all work to MMSD’s foundational practices of equity, inclusion, cultural and linguistic responsiveness, and student-centered decision-making. The position contributes to creating a cohesive vision that promotes student well-being, positive school climate, and effective teaming across the district.
The Programs Coordinator's responsibilities will include leading partnerships and programs, collaborating with the Director of Mental Health & Well-Being to oversee elementary-level screening, school mental health programs, and referral pathways, and leading the implementation of these initiatives. Additionally, the Programs Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Mental Health & Well-Being to maintain and improve operations of the Mental Health & Well-Being Team. This position will serve as a backup to the Director and represent the Director and the Mental Health & Well-Being Team at intra- and inter-departmental meetings and in ongoing workstreams, as assigned by the Director and/or the Executive Director of Student & Staff Support.
This position will require a high degree of integrity, sustain a culture of continuous improvement, and be committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive work environment, with a growth mindset, in a multi-faceted operation.

Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors is minimal and poses little to no risk of injury. This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and may involve walking, sitting, stooping or reaching. Manual dexterity is necessary for completing general tasks while operating office equipment. This position may require being stationary for extended periods of time.
Ability to perform work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year, including in inclement weather, spaces without air conditioning, and areas where temperatures may be uncomfortable or fluctuate rapidly.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Mental Health & Well-Being Partnerships with Community Agencies (30%)
- Work with schools, partners, and central office staff to navigate district and partner agency requirements related to initial and ongoing partnerships (e.g., understanding and developing funding streams, writing Board of Education documents and monitoring their movement through the consent process, maintaining appropriate MOAs and contracts)
- Develop and refine initial and ongoing structures (including documentation of such) that will support program implementation at the school, partner, and district levels
- Support completion of other partnership and school-based mental health services requirements such as passing provider background checks, obtaining parent/guardian consent, etc.
- Team Contribution and Shared Responsibilities (20%)
- Participate in intra- and interdepartmental committees and project work as a member of MMSD’s Mental Health & Well-Being Team, within the Department of Student & Staff Support
- Share operational tasks with team members based on individual strengths and growth areas
- Contribute to the team’s vision to:
- Develop and support a cohesive tiered system of mental health supports that expands schools’ capacity to improve student mental health and well-being so students are available for learning
- Support schools and staff in delivering and implementing high-quality, culturally relevant, evidence-based mental health interventions
- Co-develop, deliver, and evaluate professional development workshops and resources for school-based staff
- Ensure systematic and useful program data collection, analysis, and reporting in collaboration with fellow team members
- Program Leadership, Implementation, and Coordination (20%)
- Provide input and collaboration to strengthen the effectiveness of central office mental health leadership and programs
- Ensure high-quality, consistent implementation of elementary-level mental health screening, referral, and intervention work
- Support the delivery of interventions with fidelity, including creating and refining systems to monitor and document interventions and collaboratively problem-solve implementation and monitoring challenges as needed
- Collaborate with other administrators in the Department of Student & Staff Support to ensure close integration of social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health strategies, practices, and interventions
- Support schools in implementing programming aligned with MMSD service delivery principles: family-based, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and data-driven
- Grants and Budgeting (10%)
- Provide leadership in the application, acceptance, and implementation of school mental health grants and assist with the development of a sustainable funding plan to support school mental health initiatives
- Collaborate with central office grant staff to identify and co-author appropriate funding proposals for mental health & well-being programming
- Assist the Direct of Mental Health & Well-Being with overseeing the implementation of our mental health grants, achieving deliverables, and related reporting and Board of Education approvals
- Assist Director of Mental Health & Well-Being with maintaining grant budgets and budgeting from additional sources in collaboration with other central office departments
- Participate in fundraising activities, including cultivating relationships with donors and partners, to support and expand school-based health and mental health programs
- Communicate with foundations and philanthropic donors to support and expand program sustainability
- Data, Evaluation, and Reporting (10%)
- Collect, analyze, and report program data to inform continuous program improvement at both district and school levels
- Promote elicitation of student and family voice in needs assessment and program evaluation
- Collaborate with the MMSD Research, Assessment and Improvement (RAI) team to design and implement evaluation plans
- Prepare and present reports to MMSD executive leadership, the Board of Education, and external audiences (e.g., other school districts, community groups) on school-based mental health models and services
- Other Duties (10%)
- Co-facilitate the Mental Health & Well-Being Team with the Director by developing, maintaining, and refining efficient team operations that simultaneously promote effectiveness, individual job satisfaction, and healthy team dynamics
- Lead department cross-functional teams and contribute to the department’s overall initiatives, priorities, and continuous improvement efforts
- Serve as a liaison between school-based Student Services Teams and the Department of Student & Staff Support to help align practices and to move work forward systematically
- Advocate for equitable access to culturally relevant mental and physical health services for all students
- Represent MMSD in local, regional, and state-level collaborations related to school-based health and mental health services
- Perform other related duties as assigned

- Proven expertise in program design and management, including grant writing, budget oversight, partnership cultivation, and long-term sustainability planning
- Current Wisconsin DPI Pupil Services license — School Social Worker (7050), School Psychologist (7062), School Counselor (7054), or Director of Special Ed/Pupil Services (5080)
