JOB DESCRIPTION  

  

Job Type: Full-time Non-exempt

SUMMARY

Oversee the administration of Safety and Health policies and procedures for Madison Metal Processing (MMP). Coordinate program development, provide necessary training to management and team members, and monitor and report on safety performance of facility. Provides technical expertise in audits, accident investigation(s) and analysis, countermeasures, employee monitoring and testing and ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor compliance with OSHA General Industry Standards, local/state regulations, and internal safety policies
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of programs to train managers, supervisors, and employees in work safe practices and incident prevention
  • Track and maintain safety records, including injury logs, training documentation, and audit results
  • Implement and enforce emergency response procedures and drills
  • Oversee safety audits for MMP 
  • Support and provide guidance and structure to the Safety Committee
  • Oversee compliance with Applicable Safety Laws and Regulations
  • Oversee Safety Training and monitor Training Records
  • Administer, Organize, Maintain Business Records or Documents and Reviews, Create and Verify Accuracy of Data or Reports Pertaining to Safety
  • Coordinate Root Cause Analysis on accidents and incidents to determine root cause and countermeasures
  • Participates and provides leadership for the continuous improvement program (Kaizen) for Safety
  • Monitor training program effectiveness and develop activities to improve training effectiveness and follow up
  • Monitor use of PPE, LOTO, forklift safety, and machine guarding compliance
  • Other duties may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED is required; associate or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field and two years of experience in a safety-related role or a combination of education and experience is preferred. 

COMPUTER SKILLS

Must have proficient computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to perform basic Internet research is also preferred.  

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Must be able to fluently speak, write and read in English. Ability to read, write legibly and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and regulations, operating instructions, blueprints, technical drawings, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, work procedures, and technical standards. Ability to speak effectively and respond to questions before groups of managers, engineers, contractors, regulatory representatives and employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply & divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret various types of graphs.

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to apply broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures to complete difficult assignments. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS 

Trainer Certifications, Forklift, Overhead Cranes, Hazard-Environmental training, CSP strongly desired but not mandatory.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach, climb use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms, and frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Employee may be required long hours of sitting and staring at computer monitor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Minimal elevated work, work around moving equipment: forklifts, cranes, machines, and some exposure to hot and cold weather. Proper safety equipment / PPE is required for work on the Warehouse floor.
