Executive Director
This is a full-time position that reports to the MHS board president. Base compensation is $70,000 per annum, assuming a 40-hour week and two weeks of vacation. The executive director will have an office in the MHS’s administrative and public exhibit center at Lee’s Academy in Madison. Lee’s Academy and its Madison Center for History and Culture are open to the public year-round from Wednesday through Friday from 10 am until 2 pm.
Job Description
Manage day-to-day operations, oversee staff, assist the Properties Committee, negotiate vendor contracts, and, with the chair of the Marketing Committee, draft and manage grant proposals.
Attend 10 monthly board meetings and manage such periodic public events as the annual Frederick Lee Lectures, History Happy Hours, and Allis-Bushnell House Museum open houses and special events.
Provide monthly director reports and generate a monthly magazine article, monthly press releases, quarterly magazine articles, and the MHS quarterly newsletter.
Work with MHS trustees on the Development Committee and Marketing Committee to plan fundraising efforts and assist in their execution.
Seek research grant opportunities. Where appropriate opportunities are found, write proposals, generate supporting documentation, and submit grant proposal packages. Oversee grants from proposal submission to project completion.
Support MHS trustees in planning meetings, running A/V systems, researching past projects, and creating documentation.
With the Development and Marketing Committees, help create and execute marketing campaigns for MHS events and programs.
Utilize database to record revenue, create acknowledgment letters, monitor marketing campaigns, analyze trends for membership growth, donation trends, social media engagement, visitor attendance, and website traffic.
Maintain relationships with donors, community partners, vendors, and volunteers.
Serve as a point of contact for nonprofit organizations, local schools, and the Town of Madison and occasionally represent the MHS at community events.
Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Suite. Experience using a customer relations management system, WordPress, and graphic design software would be an asset, as would grant-writing experience.
